Senior Investment Manager, Life Science and Medtech
Lab Summary:
Samsung Ventures America (SVA) is the US arm (offices in Mountain View, CA, and Boston, MA) for Samsung's venture investment activities. The primary responsibilities of the group are to source, qualify, and invest in various technology-related companies. Our major investment areas include AI, robotics, cyber security, semiconductors, materials science, life science, medtech, energy, fintech, insurtech, and we invest stage agnostically participating in financings ranging from seed to later ages. Currently, the group has over $3B under management.
Position Summary:
Samsung Ventures America is seeking an Investment Manager to lead investments in the Life Science and Medtech sector. The Manager will be covering investments in all North America regions including USA and Canada. This position based in Boston, MA.
Position Responsibilities:
- Deal Sourcing and Market Analysis
- Identify companies and technologies of interest to Samsung for early to late-stage investments and develop pipeline for investments
- Lead in all aspects of the investment process including deal sourcing, financial modeling, due diligence, negotiation and committee presentations for new and follow-on investments
- Develop investment theses in the life science and medtech sector and suggest strategic solutions
- Portfolio Management
- Assess overall strategy of portfolio companies
- Monitor financial health and viability of portfolio companies and present options on addressing investment concerns and/or exit strategies, where applicable
- Serve as board director or observer for portfolio companies to represent Samsung’s voice
- Maintain communications with the Seoul office team for internal/external processes
- Brand Building
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with venture capitalists, government officials, research organizations, entrepreneurs and key opinion leaders in the innovative life science and medtech ecosystem globally
- Be a brand ambassador for Samsung Ventures and enhance the visibility and reputation within the entrepreneurial ecosystem
- Communicate broadly to the ecosystem where Samsung Ventures has and can add value
Required Skills:
- BS degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Master/PhD degree is a plus in fields including Cancer Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Neuroscience, etc
- 5+ years of work experience in consulting, Biotech, Pharma, Corporate Venture Capital or Venture Capital
- Demonstrate strong understanding in industry dynamics and ability to translate the understanding to a comprehensive presentation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills to liaise between different interests
- Excellent interpersonal skill to establish, maintain and expand network
- Proficient and familiar with using research platforms such as CBInsights, Pitchbook, and etc. handling and processing a large amount of data
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Driven, self-starter with the ability to work both independently and in a team setting
Base Pay Range
$117,000 - $160,850 USD
