Lab Summary: The Standards & Mobility Innovation team is committed to developing technologies that enable ubiquitous access to information and provide immersive multimedia experiences for mobility users. Our research focuses on:

  • Wireless standards and technology including 5G/6G, Wi-Fi, FiRa/UWB, MPEG, AOM, CSA Matter, CSA ACWG, CCC, etc
  • RF & fast prototyping of 5G and IEEE 802 wireless systems and/or use cases
  • Multimedia standards and technology including VR, HDR, All-IP delivery
  • Smart Home and IoT standards connectivity/sensing technology
  • Embodied intelligence and generative AI

Position Summary:  Join the SMI lab of Samsung Research America to contribute to the development of Samsung's vision of next generation of AI and sensing technology.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop deep learning method for embodied policy learning, imitation learning
  • Perform research for embodied intelligence (i.e., Robotics) focusing on developing advanced tactical sensors for dexterous hand
  • Perform simulation and analyze the data for policy learning
  • Develop algorithms to mitigate the Sim2Real gaps 
  • Develop deep learning algorithms and system for universal manipulation data collection
  • Work within cross-functional, cross-divisional teams and assist in the design, analysis and performance evaluation from concept to completion

Required Skills:

  • PhD student in CS/EE / ECE preferable or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Familiarity with Android, Java, C, ROS and C++
  • Solid background in deep learning, deep reinforcement learning, generative AI, diffusion models, VAE, gaussian splatting
  • Proven skills in the simulation of robotics 
  • Ability to clearly define high level requirements and criteria to be used in the evaluation of robotic policy alternatives
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills to effectively represent the derived results and technical concepts developed in the course of the work

Special Attributes:

  • Research experience with embodied intelligence (hardware, imitation learning, simulation) is preferred. Hands-on experience with robotic foundation model is a plus
  • Familiarity with large vision model, large language model, language vision action model, is helpful
  • Experience with tactical sensors is preferred

The hourly pay rate range for roles at this level is listed below, but may be higher or lower in other states due to geographic differentials in the labor market. Within the hourly pay rate range, individual rates depend on a number of factors—including the role’s function and location as well as the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, education and training. This is part of our comprehensive compensation package with annual bonus eligibility and generous benefits to help you live life well.
