The Memory Solutions Lab (MSL) is part of Samsung’s Memory Business Unit, the industry's technology and volume leader in DRAM, NAND Flash, SRAM memory. MSL’s vision is to solve key problems & optimize architecture Platform for Cloud & Data center environments. We are an integral part of Samsung’s strong R&D focus & lab innovation engine. We work closely with development teams to bring feature innovation to product roadmaps.

You’ll work with experimental hardware, enhance systems software and applications to optimize the end-to-end architecture benefiting millions of users.
What You’ll Do
- Research Data Center memory and storage requirements, bottlenecks and pain points, and next generation memory and storage controller architecture, especially data movement, compute offload and acceleration
- Analyze and develop applications and build prototypes demonstrating application benefits
- Research emerging technology standards and map to optimal implementation
- Take design from concept modeled with software to implement as a solution with applications, software and firmware
- Develop one-of-a-kind innovative prototypes and contribute to feasibility studies and solution development, demonstrating the value of the proposed architectures.
- Collaborate with other researchers in the team to develop innovative memory/storage solutions for AI/ML workloads
Location: Onsite at our San Jose office/headquarters 5 days a week
What You Bring
- Bachelors with 5+ years of relevant industry experience, or Masters with 3+ years or PhD +0 years working or researching experiences in memory or storage technologies, data center system or cloud infrastructures
- In depth knowledge of CPU, memory, storage, and current computer system architectures and experience building & modeling full systems.
- Software development in C/C++, Python with experience in multi-threading programming
- Linux Kernel/Driver/User Space development experience
- Good understanding of Embedded system including knowledge of I/O and HW/SW interface
- Must be highly motivated with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to meet aggressive project deadlines in a team environment
- Ability to work successfully with cross-functional teams, including coordinating across organizational boundaries and geographies
- Advanced knowledge and development experience with CXL, PCIe/NVMe protocol
- Experiences in hardware acceleration and software stack programming model (OpenCL/CUDA) in AI/MI using GPU/CPU/FPGA system
- Deep understanding of datacenter applications such as Cloud Database, Big Data Analytics, LLM, AI/ML frameworks (Tensorflow, PyTorch) and Genomics
- Good understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, VLAN, RDMA, RoCE, NVMeoF protocol
- Hands on Lab debug using ICE debuggers and/or PCIe protocol analyzers on hardware platforms
- In depth understanding of low-level software and device drivers such as Firmware, Boot, BIOS/UEFI
- Understanding of typical hyperscale and data center applications, familiar with MySQL, Apache Spark, Postgres, RockDB, MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, etc.

Base Pay Range
$134,400 - $201,600 USD
