Social Media Manager

Middleburg, VA or Remote

Sandboxx builds consumer technology that supports service members and their families across the full military life cycle. We operate at national scale, work closely with the Department of War and the broader military ecosystem, and serve millions of users each year. We are looking for driven, curious people who take ownership of their work, move quickly, and want to build products that have real impact for the military community.

About Sandboxx:

Sandboxx connects military recruits with their support system through physical mail, in-app messaging, news, and a growing online community. Every week, tens of thousands of letters are sent through our platform, strengthening bonds between recruits and the people cheering them on.

We are building more than an app. We are building the digital front door to military life.

  • This is a full-time W2 position.
  • Remote-friendly, with a preference for candidates in-person at our Middleburg, VA headquarters.
  • Our office is dog-friendly, your four-legged friends are welcome here!

About the Role:

We’re looking for a Social Media Manager who lives online, understands the emotional rhythm of military life, and knows how to turn real moments into scroll-stopping content.

You will own and execute social strategy across four interconnected brands:

  • Sandboxx App
  • Sandboxx Community
  • Sandboxx News
  • Waypoints

This role sits at the intersection of storytelling, community, and growth. You will create content that makes military families feel seen and supported while driving real engagement, traffic, and new users into our ecosystem.

You will report to the Director of Marketing and collaborate closely with Product, Growth, and Community to turn social insight into measurable business momentum.

Why We’re Hiring For This Role Now:

We’re growing fast.

We’re scaling from 700k to 1M+ active users this year. Social is not just a brand channel for us. It is a real driver of awareness, trust, and new users. It needs a dedicated owner who treats it like a growth engine.

We have massive untapped momentum.

Our organic presence has been underbuilt. There is a real opportunity to grow an engaged, loyal following that feels seen and supported, and that proudly shares Sandboxx with others.

New products are live.

Across Sandboxx, Community, News, and Waypoints, we are continuously launching new features and experiences. We need creative content that drives awareness, education, and self-serve adoption across the entire ecosystem.

We are an ecosystem, not a single app.

Sandboxx, Community, News, and Waypoints all connect. Social should help move people across that ecosystem in a natural way that strengthens the whole brand.

Military life moves in rhythms.

Ship dates, graduations, PCS season, holidays. These are emotional, high-energy moments. We need someone who understands that cadence and can show up in real time with content that matters.

Pinterest and Reddit are open territory.

Pinterest and Reddit are major opportunities for reaching military families searching for answers and community. We want someone excited to build these channels from the ground up and make Sandboxx a trusted name there.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own and execute social strategy across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, and Reddit for all four Sandboxx brands
  • Create short-form video, carousels, memes, milestone content, and real-time posts that reflect the rhythm of military life
  • Build and manage a content calendar aligned to ship dates, graduations, PCS season, holidays, partner activations, and product launches
  • Engage daily with comments, DMs, and user-generated content to build trust and strengthen community
  • Identify trends early and translate them into relevant, platform-native content for a military audience
  • Partner with military family influencers, veteran creators, and brand ambassadors to expand reach
  • Repurpose Sandboxx News stories, base guides, and Community resources into social-first content that drives traffic
  • Drive cross-platform momentum between Sandboxx, Community, News, and Waypoints
  • Launch and grow Pinterest and Reddit through authentic engagement, SEO-informed content, and thoughtful testing
  • Track performance across engagement, traffic, and product adoption, and continuously optimize through testing and iteration
  • Support paid social campaigns with organic creative and messaging alignment
  • Collaborate with Product, Community, and Growth teams to amplify launches and campaigns

What We’re Looking For:

  • You’ve built and managed social accounts for a brand people actually follow.
  • You know how to create short-form video that feels native, not forced.
  • You’re confident on camera and comfortable being seen.
  • You understand TikTok and Instagram culture at a deep level.
  • You know how to write captions that sound human.
  • You move fast, test often, and learn quickly.
  • You’re organized enough to run a content calendar but flexible enough to jump on a trend.
  • You pay attention to performance and adjust without being told.
  • You’re excited about building something that’s still early and full of opportunity.

What Success Looks Like:

Within the first month, you’ll:

  • Experience the product(s) firsthand. Send a Sandboxx letter, explore Community, use Waypoints, read News and fully understand the emotional journey of our users.
  • Audit our current social presence, competitors, and military community conversations. Share quick wins and bold ideas.
  • Launch 2 to 3 creative experiments to establish your voice and start learning what resonates.
  • Take ownership of our Sprout workflows and begin running day to day social execution.
  • Make TikTok the priority. Launch and test multiple short-form video formats to quickly identify what drives reach, engagement, and follower growth.

Within the first 3 months, you’ll:

  • Run a consistent, well-organized content calendar aligned to military milestones, product launches, and partner moments.
  • Spot trends early and turn them into platform-native content that feels timely, relevant, and distinctly Sandboxx.
  • Increase engagement and follower growth by at least 20 percent through strong creative, active community management, and user generated content.
  • Activate 3 to 5 military family influencers or veteran creators in a pilot collaboration to expand reach and credibility.
  • Establish a credible Reddit presence through authentic engagement in key military communities, focused on trust, value, and driving awareness of Sandboxx Community.
  • Launch and begin scaling Pinterest with optimized boards and pins that generate measurable referral traffic to Sandboxx Community and News.
  • Deliver a clear monthly performance update tied directly to engagement, traffic, and product adoption, with recommendations on what to scale next.

Within the first 6 months, you’ll:

  • Identify top performing formats and double down on what consistently drives traffic, engagement, and new member sign-ups.
  • Build and document a repeatable content system, including workflows, creative frameworks, and reporting rhythms.
  • Become a recognizable and trusted voice of Sandboxx across social platforms, strengthening brand credibility within the military community.
  • Turn Pinterest and Reddit into reliable contributors to Sandboxx Community growth, with measurable referral traffic and sign-ups.

After 12 months, you’ll:

  • Have built a sustainable social engine with proven formats, engaged audiences, and clear growth levers.
  • Elevate the social presence of Sandboxx, Community, News, and Waypoints into distinct but cohesive brands that military families recognize and trust.
  • Lay the groundwork for expanding the social function as the company scales.

What You’re Like:

  • You’ve spent 3–5+ years building and managing social media presences for brands people actually follow, not just post-and-pray, but strategic, community-first content that drives real business results
  • You think in outcomes, not outputs. Posting is not success. Measurable growth in traffic, engagement, sign-ups, and brand recall is.
  • You obsess over what’s working on each platform, spending time in the comments, studying trends, and iterating weekly based on performance data

Compensation, Benefits & Perks

  • Equity incentive plan
  • 401k with matching and sharing
  • Top-tier health insurance and family benefits
  • Flexible paid vacation
  • Paid parental leave

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
