ABOUT THE ROLE

The Ministry of Health is seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist who will be embedded at the Institution in the Directorate of Planning, Monitoring Evaluation, and Health Financing. This individual will be seconded by Sand Technologies and will be tasked with extracting meaningful insights from Health data feeding into among other things the Health Intelligence Centre and into routine reporting. Outputs from this work are intended to support decision-making and policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the data-driven decision-making process, from data collection and analysis to implementation and monitoring for impact
  • Lead implementation pertaining to the health intelligence centre and other related analytics work in the Ministry of Health 
  • Develop and implement advanced statistical and machine learning models to extract meaningful insights from health data
  • Manage health data science projects, ensuring they meet business requirements and are delivered on time
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business challenges and objectives, translating complex data into actionable insights
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in data science, machine learning and AI continuously improving our methodologies and technologies

REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS

  • Post graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field with a focus on data science, machine learning and AI
  • At least five years minimum working experience as a data scientist
  • Solid and demonstrable knowledge of machine learning techniques and algorithms
  • Excellent programming skills in languages such as R, Python, Scala or Java
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Storm and Hadoop
  • Strong communication, reporting & presentation skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams
