About the role

Sand Technologies is at the forefront of revolutionizing healthcare delivery across Africa. Through our innovative Rural Health Operating System (RHOS), developed in partnership with the Society for Family Health, we have served over 1 million patients, effectively managing thousands of healthcare visits and treatments. Our mission is to digitize 100,000 more clinics by 2030, transforming healthcare delivery and empowering communities to access the best care, regardless of their location.

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cloud Engineer to join our dynamic team. Our ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), a solid understanding of system design, and proficiency in integrating various AWS solutions. This role requires hands-on experience with Kubernetes (K8s) management and usage, as well as expertise in continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using GitHub. A strong foundation in computer science principles, including an understanding of processor memory and network operations at the OS level is essential.

Specific Responsibilities

• Infrastructure Deployment: Design, deploy and manage cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes clusters, both via AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) and on-premises solutions.
• Research and Development: Conduct R&D to address infrastructure-level challenges, proposing and implementing effective solutions.
• CI/CD Pipeline Creation: Develop and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to streamline application development and deployment processes.
• Monitoring and Observability: Implement and manage monitoring and observability configurations for deployed solutions to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Maintenance and Enhancement: Oversee the maintenance and continuous improvement of existing infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security and efficiency.
• Debugging and Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve infrastructure-related issues promptly to maintain system integrity and performance.

Requirements 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in cloud engineering, with a focus on AWS services and infrastructure.
• Proven track record of designing and implementing scalable, secure and efficient cloud based solutions.
• Excellent problem solving skills, with the ability to conduct thorough research and develop innovative solutions to complex infrastructure challenges.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

CI/CD and GitHub: Solid understanding and hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, particularly using GitHub for version control and workflow automation.

Computer Science Fundamentals: Deep understanding of computer science principles, including processor, memory and network operations at the OS level, as well as containerization technologies and their underlying mechanics.
