What You’ll Do as a Patient Sitter:
As a Patient Sitter at the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living, you will work closely with the nursing and interdisciplinary teams to ensure the safety and emotional well-being of residents who require additional observation and support beyond routine care.
- Monitor resident behavior and symptoms; communicate concerns to nursing and care teams.
- Provide companionship and supportive presence to residents, especially those experiencing distress, disorientation, or isolation.
- Prevent falls and injuries by maintaining constant observation of residents at risk.
- Support residents exhibiting behaviors such as wandering, aggression, or inappropriate social interactions.
- Escort residents to appointments or activities, ensuring safety and comfort.
- Assist with meals by cutting food or offering finger foods—without feeding.
- Set up supplies for personal care routines without performing hands-on care.
- Maintain a tidy, calming environment; change bed linens when the bed is unoccupied.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with residents while respecting boundaries.
- Monitor multiple residents, if assigned, and remain vigilant at all times.
- Attend required in-service trainings and follow all safety and infection control protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in long-term care or related healthcare setting preferred.
- Kind, calm, and empathetic demeanor.
- Ability to build rapport with residents, especially those with behavioral health needs.
- Cultural sensitivity, especially toward Jewish traditions and multilingual populations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish, Cantonese, or Russian).
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively with interdisciplinary teams.
