Team Lead

Home Cafe
Reports to: Student Cafe Executive Officer (SCEO) or Cafe Operations Manager

Status: Part-Time, Hourly

Job Purpose: To inspire, motivate, and lead the cafe team to success through the lens of balanced servant leadership. Team Leads are responsible for managing the cafe during their shifts, ensuring that their team has the resources to operate at our high standards, and providing great experiences for our community by delivering top tier hospitality, high quality products, and a clean and inviting cafe space.

Summary of duties and responsibilities:

Team Development

  • Delegate tasks and provide feedback to team members while keeping motivation levels, team morale, and energy levels high
  • Demonstrate balanced servant leadership by providing the tools the team needs, completing tasks alongside their team, and providing direction, clear goals, and motivation
  • Work with C.E.O. to grow leadership, communication, and operational skills by seeking and receiving feedback
  • Help train the team on new product roll-outs and new operations procedures

Community Leadership

  • Support Saxbys’ impact mission focused on education and opportunity by engaging the community through planning and executing events in the cafe
  • Attend Lifelong Learning workshops in person or online to develop leadership skills
  • Drive sales through high quality operations and on-shift promotion of target products like Limited Time Offers

Financial Management

  • Identify areas of opportunity in the cafe such as operational efficiency or driving sales and work with the leadership team to implement changes
  • Learn the peak, non-peak, and steady times of the cafe and how to manage the shift accordingly
  • Understand COGS and contributing factors like waste, team member consumption, and improper recipe usage
  • Understand how to utilize prep PARs, and understand when to recommend adjustments to the C.E.O.

Operational Support

  • Use the Weekly Game Plan to create shift plans to manage time and ensure all tasks get done efficiently and effectively during a shift
  • Maintain and enforce the anchoring plan
  • Communicate with fellow leaders through daily logs, emails, and phone
  • Manage and document the flow of product by receiving orders, creating prep logs, maintaining product availability, and completing waste logs
  • Maintain a food safe environment based on ServSafe standards
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment for all team members and guests

  • Experience in the Cook or Barista role at Saxbys
  • Excellent professional communication skills
  • Self-leadership skills and readiness to take initiative
  • Understanding of cafe needs and operations
  • Ability to take and give appropriate feedback
  • Exhibits consistently high performance in attitude, skill, and knowledge in trained positions
  • Physical Requirements
    • Able to stand, walk, and smile for extended periods of time. o Able to stoop and kneel
    • Push, pull, lift or carry up to 35 lbs.
    • Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, ramps
