Job Summary:  Traffic Control Supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate work zone traffic control operations, including flagging and signing personnel.
  • Coordinate traffic control activities with Fay personnel, subcontractors, utilities, and suppliers.
  • Conduct daily and weekly inspections and maintain required traffic control documentation and project diary.
  • Ensure traffic control devices and operations comply with approved traffic control plans, VDOT requirements, the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual, and MUTCD.
  • Identify and coordinate correction of traffic control deficiencies and unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in traffic control meetings and coordinate responses to traffic control issues and emergencies.
  • Maintain required availability to support project traffic control operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) certification, or equivalent certification approved by VDOT.
  • Successful completion of a VDOT-approved Intermediate or Advanced Work Zone Traffic Control training course and examination.
  • Minimum three (3) years of full-time field experience in work zone traffic control.
  • Ability to read and interpret traffic control plans and maintain required project documentation.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous VDOT project experience, preferably on major highway, interchange, bridge, or roadway projects.
  • Current flagger certification.
  • Experience with VDOT traffic control inspections, documentation, and reporting requirements.
  • Familiarity with the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual, MUTCD, and ATSSA work zone traffic control standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the project.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to navigate and oversee work in various construction site environments.
  • Availability to travel to various project locations as needed.
