We are hiring a Director & Associate General Counsel, Litigation and Regulatory to lead litigation, dispute resolution, and certain regulatory matters related to our business. The ideal candidate will have significant experience managing complex litigation and alternative dispute resolution to efficient and effective resolution, and a demonstrable history of providing practical guidance to solve complex, time-sensitive problems in close partnership with a variety of cross-functional teams. This role requires the right combination of strategic leadership as well as roll-up-your sleeves willingness to take on all parts of the litigation lifecycle.
You will:
- Develop and lead company strategy on a wide range of litigation and regulatory matters, including commercial disputes, employment litigation, and regulatory investigations and enforcement actions.
- Proactively manage all aspects of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, witness preparation, settlement negotiations, and trial and appellate strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant information, assess risk, and develop legal strategies to resolve disputes, including understanding, interpreting, and applying current law and regulations to Scale’s current and prospective products and services.
- Manage and oversee outside counsel, including tactical guidance, staffing, case management, budgeting, and alignment with Scale’s broader legal strategy.
- Help build and maintain internal processes, resources, and tools to help scale the legal function.
Qualifications
- At least 10+ years combined litigation experience at innovative technology companies and law firms.
- Ability to think strategically at a high-level and from deep in the details, in order to drive complex problem solving and develop creative, business-forward solutions
- A roll-up-your-sleeves attitude to tackle projects large and small with a low-ego approach to collaborating across the organization
- Deep interest in artificial intelligence and generative AI technology and applications
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- JD and a member of the California Bar in good standing
Compensation packages at Scale for eligible roles include base salary, equity, and benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position, determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, interview performance, and relevant education or training. Scale employees in eligible roles are also granted equity based compensation, subject to Board of Director approval. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process, and confirm whether the hired role will be eligible for equity grant. You’ll also receive benefits including, but not limited to: Comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage, retirement benefits, a learning and development stipend, and generous PTO. The base salary range for this full-time position in the location of San Francisco is:
$302,400 - $378,000 USD
