Head of Corporate Accounting

San Francisco, CA

Scale is looking for a Head of Corporate Accounting to lead its global Corporate Accounting function. Reporting directly to the Global Controller, you will own general ledger, cost, and international accounting and consolidation, leading a team of functional leads across each area. This role will be instrumental in optimizing our month-end close process, reducing inefficiencies and risk, and scaling the processes, controls, agentic workflows and systems that support Scale's growth.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with deep U.S. GAAP expertise, extensive experience running a multi-entity global close, and a proven track record of leading process improvement projects that deliver measurable results.

You will:

  • Own the close: Lead the month-end close across all entities, ensuring timely and accurate financial results in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Lead the Corporate Accounting team: Manage and develop the GL, Cost, Revenue, and International Accounting leads and their teams, setting clear priorities and building a culture of ownership, accuracy, and continuous improvement
  • Treasury operations: Manage the company’s day-to-day treasury operations, including daily cash positioning and monitoring, bank account administration and banking relationships, intercompany funding and cash movements
  • Policies and controls: Own key internal policies related to corporate accounting (fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, capitalized internal-use software, etc.) and maintain an effective controls environment that reduces financial reporting risk
  • General ledger: Oversee the review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and flux analyses, and maintain the general ledger in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Drive process improvement: Identify, prioritize, and lead process improvement and automation initiatives that shorten and de-risk the close, leveraging NetSuite, AI-enabled close tools, agentic workstreams, and internal systems to drive efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting
  • Partner cross-functionally: Collaborate with Technical Accounting, Finance, and Tax to implement and operationalize new technical accounting guidance and new business activities
  • External audit: Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors, leading corporate accounting deliverables for the annual audit

Ideally you'd have:

  • 12+ years of progressive accounting experience across public accounting and corporate accounting leadership roles; Big 4 experience preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Strong experience with NetSuite
  • Deep experience with multi-entity international subsidiaries, intercompany accounting, and global consolidation
  • Expert knowledge of U.S. GAAP and full-cycle month-end close processes
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities within deadlines
  • Proven track record of leading process improvement projects end to end (e.g., shortening the close, automating reconciliations and accruals, implementing close or ERP tooling) with measurable results
  • Ability to challenge the status quo, influence change, and streamline processes and operations

Nice to haves:

  • Hands-on experience implementing AI-powered accounting or close automation tools
  • Experience at a fast-growing AI or technology company
