Our Bilingual High School School Counselor:
Our High School at School in the Square opened its doors in Fall 2024 where we began creating opportunities and access for our students that go beyond the core content areas. Our high school community provides students with educators who have great content expertise and passion for their content, while empowering them to have the autonomy and resources to get the job done in the most creative, effective, and fulfilling way possible.
We are looking for a dedicated, mission-aligned Bilingual School Counselor who both loves and respects our children. Reporting to our Principal and in collaboration with a diverse and committed School Leadership Team (SLT), you will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, parents and other stakeholders to implement a quality intervention program that is research-based and differentiated for student needs while also focusing on the social-emotional needs of all students. The School Counselor will ensure services on students’ IEPs are provided with fidelity, participate in CSE meetings and work collaboratively with families. The School Counselor will create and implement plans for small group and individual sessions as well as develop tools to support our young learners in acquiring the necessary social and emotional skills.
Bilingual School Counselor Responsibilities:
- Participates in Child Study Meetings and in Special Education Assessment Meetings as well as Individual Educational Planning Meetings
- Provides mandated and voluntary counseling (group, individual and/or family) and document notes in our Student Information System
- Mobilizes families, school, and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program
- Develops and maintains relationships with external agencies
- Conducts needs assessments
- Assists in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies
- Provides crisis intervention
- Uses Restorative Practices to support students developing SEL skills and navigating conflict
- Develops intervention strategies to increase academic success
- Works with parents to facilitate to support student transitions
- Assists parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources
- Point person for referrals to the Central State Registry (ACS)
- Advocates for new and improved service to meet the needs of students and families
- Lead professional development for educators (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting a student’s performance and behavior
- Provides workshops, classes, and activities for parents as needed
- Works directly with the S2 leadership team and attends staff meetings to develop effective strategies that support a positive school culture
- Develop curriculum and teach “Advisory” course for grade-level cohort
- Supports school-wide programs such as student-led conferences, and other community-building activities
- Supports our school community with other duties upon request. (Can include but not limited to breakfast and lunch duty)
Who You Are:
- A strong therapeutic skillset to provide holistic interventions to high school students in an individual, group, and class modality
- An expert in current research and trends in school counseling and guidance, and college and career readiness
- Familiar with restorative practices, a strong believer in anti racism education, culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, trauma informed practices
- Skilled in leading workshops, classes, and activities for parents on a monthly basis
- A strategic, solutions-focused thinker with strong communication, recording and planning skills
- A strong relationship builder, you get personal fulfillment by supporting children in both academic and non-instructional situations, and through developing connections with teachers to both improve student academic achievement as well as build SEL skills and learning in the classroom
- A graduate of a Master’s Degree in School Counseling program, possesses a valid School Counselor/Guidance Counselor certification by the State of New York
- Experienced as a full-time social worker with a minimum of two years with high school aged students. Experience in an charter schools with a diverse student population
- Able to communicate fluently in English and Spanish

In addition to meaningful and rewarding work, School in the Square provides ultra competitive salaries. Expected salary range for this role is $63,000 - $122,764, depending on experience, level of education, required certifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.
