Our High School ENL Teacher:
Our High School at School in the Square opened its doors in Fall 2024 where we began creating opportunities and access for our students that go beyond the core content areas. Our high school community provides students with educators who have great content expertise and passion for their content, while empowering them to have the autonomy and resources to get the job done in the most creative, effective, and fulfilling way possible.
We are looking for dedicated, mission-aligned English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher across grade levels 9-10 who both loves and respects our children. Reporting to our Principal and in collaboration with a diverse and committed School Leadership Team (SLT), the English as a New Language teacher provides legally mandated services to identified English Language Learners, as well as students who are identified as needing at-risk interventions. The ENL teacher pulls out small groups of students and works collaboratively in a teacher team model with the general education teachers implementing the WIDA Framework, aligned with the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards. The ENL teacher works with the school administrators to implement school procedures and policies and communicates with students’ parents, guardians and/or caregivers. Who You Are:
- Skilled with the capacity to plan, organize, and coordinate full inclusion program; supervise the development of strategies for curriculum modifications; develop and present training for teachers in best practices regarding full inclusion; evaluate and analyze complex problems, issues, and concerns; recommend appropriate alternative solutions
- Experienced with the NYSESLAT and/or NYSITELL exams
- A strategic, solutions-focused thinker with strong communication and planning skills
- A strong relationship builder, you get personal fulfillment by teaching and coaching adolescents in both academic and non-instructional situations, respecting and encouraging student effort
- Familiar with restorative practices, a strong believer in anti racism education, culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, trauma informed practices
- Self-reflective with the capacity to accept and implement feedback to improve instruction
- A graduate of a Master’s Degree in Education program in relevant content area
- Possess a valid New York State English to Speakers of other Languages or Students w/ Disabilities Certification
- Experienced as a full-time effective, impactful classroom teacher with a minimum of three years in a middle school; preferably in the areas of Special Education or ELLs. Experience in an urban charter school setting is strongly preferred
Responsibilities Include:
- Demonstrates knowledge of grade level content curricula to engage students in all content areas and differentiate curriculum and instruction to support all ELLs.
- Develops innovative instructional methodologies to teach students all content areas using the WIDA Standards to develop curriculum
- Co-plans, prepares and facilitates daily standards based lessons that utilize a variety of ENL instructional strategies which differentiate teaching based on the diverse and individual needs of all students.
- Co-teaches with general education teachers and supports student learning through modeling, lesson planning, team teaching, data analysis and ongoing feedback through dialogue and reflections.
- Manages both regulatory and instructional requirements as an ENL teacher.
- Administers Home Language Questionnaires and administers NYSITELL to determine student eligibility for ENL services.
- Administers NYSESLAT test annually.
- Create individualized plans for students with special requirements (e.g. learning disabilities)
- Research new teaching methods for teaching English as a second language
- Establishes a culture of learning to engage students in rigorous standards based curricula to ensure students master the state standards.
- Focuses on integration of literacy skills across math, science and social studies content areas, which includes explicit vocabulary development, reading, writing, speaking and listening standards.
- Designs and implements assessments that measure progress towards academic standards.
- Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices to create a classroom culture of data driven decision making to close the achievement gap for all students including general education, students with disabilities and ELLs.

Using two pay scale ranges based on your New York State Certifications, years of experience and education level certified teachers salary ranges from $66,000 - $122,764 and uncertified teachers salary ranges from $63,000 - $119,764.
