
BCI Research Associate

As part of the BCI team at Science, you will work with a world-class team of scientists and engineers to develop closed-loop brain computer interfaces that push the frontier of neurotechnology. In this role, you’ll be essential to advancing our neuroscientific understanding, while ensuring the highest standards of animal care. You may come from an animal training, veterinary, research, or wildlife background, but you are exceptionally resourceful, adaptable, and creative. For someone with the right mindset and work ethic, we will provide comprehensive training in the protocols and techniques required for this specialized field.
Role responsibilities:
- Train NHP on novel behavioral tasks
- Inform experimental design, with an eye towards optimizing behavior
- Set up, tear down, and maintain experimental rigs for data collection, debugging hardware and software issues as needed
- Work closely with our in-house vet team to ensure animal welfare, in compliance with institutional and federal regulations (e.g., USDA, OLAW)
- Adhere to AAALAC standards, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and internal IACUC-approved protocols
- Provide animals with cognitive, physical, and social enrichment
Key qualifications:
- 3+ years of academic or industry experience working with research animals, zoo animals, or wildlife
- Experience with behavioral training, including positive reinforcement training techniques
- High ethical standards and a commitment to humane animal care
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred qualifications:
- Familiarity with regulations governing the care and use of animals in research
- Strong knowledge of NHP behavior, social dynamics, and species-specific needs
- Background in a relevant scientific field, such as neuroscience, biology, or veterinary medicine
- Experience supporting animal surgeries, including providing post-operative care
Science is required under California law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on the indicated salary band. The base salary range for this full-time position is $90,000 - $115,000 annually + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.
