Technical Team Lead (DevOps)
Scopely is looking for a Senior Technical Team Lead (DevOps) to join our Star Trek Fleet Command team within our Midcore division in Spain, Ireland or UK on a hybrid/remote basis to lead and grow our global DevOps team responsible for building and maintaining cloud infrastructure for two major live products. This role is critical to ensuring the reliability, scalability, and velocity of infrastructure that supports millions of players worldwide.
You will lead a talented team of DevOps engineers—including Principal-level engineers—focused on automating, securing, and scaling our infrastructure. You will be accountable for both technical delivery and people development, acting as the team’s primary advocate and driver of continuous improvement. You’ll report into infrastructure leadership and work closely with stakeholders across engineering, game development, and operations.

What You Will Do
- Lead and manage a distributed DevOps team, owning hiring, performance reviews, career development, coaching, and team operations in alignment with Scopely’s global Engineering Manager expectations.
- Collaborate with the Principal DevOps Engineer to set technical direction, unblock engineers, review architecture decisions, and uphold high standards of operational excellence.
- Drive the delivery of key infrastructure initiatives including CI/CD systems, Infrastructure as Code, observability tooling, cost optimization, and security practices.
- Act as a bridge between the DevOps team and stakeholders across backend, client, SRE, QA, and platform engineering—ensuring priorities are clear, goals are met, and communication flows.
- Foster a high-performance culture rooted in ownership, accountability, mentorship, and continuous learning.
- Champion Scopely's engineering values and best practices across automation, testing, observability, and incident response.
- Guide team members in balancing long-term reliability and short-term delivery through effective technical planning and execution.
What We’re Looking For
- Experienced DevOps, SRE, or cloud infrastructure roles
- Proven track record of people management: setting goals, mentoring, developing engineers, and conducting performance evaluations
- Strong technical knowledge of AWS services (EC2, RDS, IAM, VPC, S3, etc.) and Infrastructure as Code, especially Terraform
- Experience with container orchestration, ideally ECS
- Deep understanding of CI/CD workflows, build systems, and deployment automation (GitLab CI preferred)
- Proficiency in monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus), alerting, and SLO development
- Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, Bash, or Go)
- Excellent communication skills in English, with ability to manage cross-functional and cross-timezone collaboration
- Passion for cultivating inclusive team culture, driving technical excellence, and growing people
Bonus Points
- Experience leading infrastructure teams in a gaming or real-time application environment
- Familiarity with Redis Cloud, RDS tuning, and high-scale database systems
- Background in cloud cost management, vendor negotiation (AWS, Datadog, RedisLabs)
- Comfortable operating in environments with on-call rotations, SRE disciplines, and high uptime expectations
- Familiarity with global infrastructure challenges, multi-region setups, and compliance (e.g., GDPR)
