Creative Director- External Development

Scopely is looking for a Creative Director to join our Slate Development Group in the US on a hybrid or remote basis!! (Hybrid in Culver City)

As Creative Director, you will work closely with project leads from Art, Engineering, Product, and Production to create an amazing player experience for a new and exciting cross-platform game. In this role, you will lead and manage art and narrative designers, be responsible for the game content creation and be the main responsible party for our IP partner. This is an opportunity to lead the creative efforts in the early stages of a project, helping to form the core loop and overall vision of the game.

What you will do:

  • Own and articulate the creative vision for the game, distilling feedback, constraints, and insights into a clear, actionable direction for the team
  • Work closely with external development partners to implement the creative vision
  • Help design and balance a fun and exciting gameplay loop and game content
  • Lead the design, narrative and art of new gameplay ideas that support and connect to the high-level product goals and vision
  • Build, lead, and mentor a team of narrative writers, artists, and designers
  • Manage the creation and maintenance of game design materials to clearly communicate and share ideas/specifications across different departments
  • Define and prioritize goals, provide guidance during development, and approve completed design work

What we are looking for:

  • 10+ years’ experience in the games industry working in a creative direction capacity, and meaningful contributions to multiple shipped titles, preferably Action RPG genre.
  • Experience leading and building a creative team
  • Strong understanding of game creative processes and issues, including player engagement, open world exploration, quest design, environmental storytelling, testing, etc., with emphasis on long-term live service games
  • Ability to self-critique and accept outside critique
  • Ability to pitch game concepts and narrative conceit in a clear, detailed manner, through strong written and verbal skills
  • A team-player mindset, understanding the importance of collaboration, and the ability to communicate effectively with all disciplines and departments
  • A positive, solution-oriented attitude and passion about the play experience, with a wealth of knowledge across a wide range of games
  • Ability to learn and master new tools and techniques

For candidates in CA, CO, NJ, NY, and WA, the annual salary range is provided below. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for equity, bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare benefits, retirement benefits, pet insurance, paid holidays, paid Scopely free days, and unlimited paid time off. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

CA, CO, NJ, NY, and WA Annual Salary Range

$220,000 - $260,000 USD
