What You’ll Do
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, build, and evolve backend systems and internal tools that power live game operations, game configuration, and administrative workflows at scale. You will take ownership of complex technical areas across a large Django platform, improve reliability and performance in a live-service environment, and help raise engineering quality through technical leadership and mentorship.
- Lead the design, development, and long-term maintenance of backend systems supporting gameplay configuration, live events, rewards, player systems, messaging, and operational tooling
- Own complex technical areas across APIs, domain logic, admin workflows, async processing, caching, persistence, and deployment-sensitive live-service systems
- Design and deliver scalable, maintainable server-side solutions within a large Python and Django codebase with many interconnected apps and services.
- Drive improvements to system reliability, code health, observability, query efficiency, and developer workflows
- Architect and improve data-driven content pipelines, including blueprint-based game configuration and FlatBuffer-backed serialization workflows where applicable
- Guide the design of robust model, service, and data-access patterns with strong attention to ORM efficiency, query optimization, and maintainability
- Partner closely with product, game design, QA, analytics, and technical leadership to shape implementation plans for high-impact features and live-ops capabilities
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, debugging support, and hands-on technical guidance
- Identify technical debt, operational risks, and scaling bottlenecks, and proactively drive improvements across the platform.
- Support live-service excellence by helping investigate incidents, improve operational readiness, and harden production systems and workflows.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience Technical Skills
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, ideally in gaming, live-service products, backend platforms, or complex web applications
- Deep backend engineering expertise in Python and strong experience with Django or comparable server-side frameworks.
- Proven experience designing and maintaining scalable backend systems, internal platforms, and API-driven applications in large production codebases
- Strong understanding of relational data modeling, ORM behavior, and query optimization in performance-sensitive systems
- Experience with JavaScript frontend development (Vue.js or React.js)
- Hands-on experience with MySQL, Redis, and ideally DynamoDB or similar data stores
- Experience designing and supporting asynchronous job systems, scheduled workflows, and operational processes in production environments.
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across application code, data issues, system performance, and cross-service integrations.
- Familiarity with containerized development workflows and cloud infrastructure, especially AWS-based environments
- Strong grasp of system design, maintainability, engineering tradeoffs, and long-lived service ownership
- Experience improving testing practices, code quality, and architectural consistency across shared codebases
- Cross-Functional and Domain Knowledge
- Experience building systems for live operations, game configuration, content management, rewards, progression, events, or other player-facing backend functionality
- Strong understanding of operational tooling, release safety, analytics-informed development, and the realities of supporting a live game
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders and balance technical quality with live-service speed and business priorities
- Exposure to client-data serialization or structured content pipelines, including JSON/FlatBuffer-style systems, is a strong plus
- Soft Skills & Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical partners
- Demonstrated technical leadership and mentorship experience
- High ownership, sound judgment, and a pragmatic approach to solving difficult production problems
- Passion for games, player experience, and building reliable systems that support live-service excellence
