What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work with vehicle design, dynamics, powertrain, and testing teams to develop brake system requirements that align with vehicle performance and safety targets.
  • Brake System Development: Design and develop brake system components, including hydraulic systems, brake calipers, rotors, pads, and associated parts, incorporating lessons learned and meeting all performance requirements.
  • Simulation Analysis: Conduct simulations to predict brake system performance under various operating conditions.
  • Supplier and Manufacturer Coordination: Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure performance targets are met and validation work is conducted effectively.
  • Validation and Testing: Develop and execute brake system validation and testing protocols in both laboratory settings and real-world conditions.
  • Industry Trends and Advancements: Stay current with industry trends and advancements related to brake systems, electric vehicle technologies, safety regulations, and performance requirements.
  • Documentation Development: Assist in creating technical specifications, test reports, and design validation plans.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support and collaborate with other teams to ensure the quality and consistency of brake system components.
  • Design Reviews and Brainstorming: Participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions to contribute innovative ideas that enhance brake system performance and efficiency.
  • Engineering Excellence: Uphold the vision of engineering excellence and serve as a source of technical knowledge.
  • Innovation and Collaboration: Introduce innovative ideas and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure the company's vision is achieved.
  • Design and Specification Review: Critically review existing designs, ideas, and specifications, proposing engineering improvements.
  • Packaging and Testing Strategies: Work with team members to develop improved packaging and testing strategies, fostering engagement and contributions from all involved.
  • Prototype and Serial Development Coordination: Coordinate prototype and serial development stages, including part availability, test planning, and part releases.
  • Additional Tasks: Participate in other related tasks and activities as required.

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan 
  • The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or Engineering Technology.
  • Experience: Over 6 years of experience in brake engineering with a focus on brake system development, preferably in the automotive industry or electric vehicle sector. OEM experience is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience with CAD/FEA part design is a bonus.
    • Proficiency in requirements management and system integration.
  • Project Management: Advanced project steering and coordination skills, with the ability to independently manage projects and suppliers.
  • Motivation and Innovation: Highly motivated engineer eager to work at the forefront of electric vehicle technical design, generate innovative ideas and solutions, and engage in hands-on testing.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, including ownership, self-motivation, problem-solving, analytical thinking, teamwork, innovation, creativity, communication, and the ability to develop and thrive in collaborative working relationships.
  • Cross-Functional Excellence: Proven ability to excel in a cross-functional environment.
  • Proactive Approach: Adopts a proactive and innovative approach to engineering, consistently delivering results and solving challenges efficiently.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with brake system regulations and standards, including FMVSS, VDA, ISO, and SAE guidelines.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and optimize brake system performance.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Attention to Detail: Detail-oriented approach to design, testing, and documentation

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $120,000 - $135,000

Internal leveling code: IC9
