What you’ll do

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) for Press Parts and Structural Components is responsible for ensuring that all sourced metal components — including stamped parts, welded assemblies, and structural body elements — meet Scout Motors’ quality, timing, and delivery requirements. This role partners with suppliers from nomination through SOP (Start of Production) and beyond to proactively manage quality risks, develop robust manufacturing processes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities: 

Supplier Assessment and Selection:

  • Conduct thorough evaluations of potential suppliers to assess their capability, quality systems, and compliance with industry standards. 
  • Collaborate with procurement and engineering teams to select suppliers that align with our quality objectives. 

Quality Assurance and Monitoring: 

  • Establish and maintain quality metrics for Press Part /Structure components. 
  • Monitor supplier performance through regular audits, assessments, and quality control inspections. 

Root Cause Analysis: 

  • Investigate quality issues related to suppliers, utilizing root cause analysis techniques to identify problems and implement corrective actions. 
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve issues and improve their processes. 

Quality Documentation: 

  • Develop and maintain quality documentation, including inspection plans, control plans, and work instructions specific to Press Part /Structure components. 
  • Ensure that all quality records are up-to-date and compliant with regulatory requirements. 

Continuous Improvement: 

  • Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in supplier quality performance. 
  • Facilitate training and workshops with suppliers to promote best practices in quality management. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration: 

  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure quality standards are integrated throughout the product lifecycle. 
  • Participate in product development meetings to provide input on supplier capabilities and quality considerations. 

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Blythewood, South Carolina. 
  • The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company.
  • Travel: This role requires the ability to travel 40-70% of the time. Potential international travel, and passport is required.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical/vehicle engineering, industrial engineering, or related field. 
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in Press Part /Structure product quality in an SQE capacity. 
  • Very good technical understanding and sound specialist knowledge of vehicle development, vehicle production, and supply chain management.  
  • Excellent operations experience and very good understanding of the vehicle assembly/ functionality as a whole. 
  • Great written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Sound knowledge of quality management and methodologies.  
  • Understanding of safety requirements  
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, a high level of assertiveness as well as entrepreneurial thinking and goal- and result-oriented decision-making skills 
  • Leadership and team management abilities, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams 
  • Proven results and ability to direct supplier activities at the management level to ensure suppliers can meet customer requirements and expectations. 
  • Proven ability to execute project management techniques. 
  • Strong technical writing ability using SPC and data analysis as well as an ability to explain complex issues concisely and plainly. 
  • Ability to travel 40-70% of the time (May entail international travel, passport required

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $95,000.00 - $125,000.00
