What you’ll do
Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:
- As a Lead Designer at Scout, you’ll operate as a strategic, full-stack design leader—deeply engaged in every stage of the design process, from user research and systems thinking to interaction, visual, and experience design. You’ll champion a user-centered mindset across the organization while guiding the team toward elegant, scalable solutions.
- Lead end-to-end design efforts across responsive web, native mobile, and in-store digital experiences—ensuring seamless cross-platform consistency and delivering best-in-class interactions for customers.
- Act as a design thought partner to senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Customer Experience, shaping customer-facing technology strategies that elevate Scout’s business and brand.
- Drive the strategic application of Scout’s brand across all digital touchpoints—ensuring alignment in layout, color theory, typography, tone, and iconography while balancing business and user needs.
- Mentor and guide multidisciplinary designers, fostering a culture of feedback, growth, and collaboration across teams including, In-Vehicle UX, Brand, and Communications.
- Partner with engineering leads to champion a scalable design system and component strategy—promoting a build-once, use-many approach that accelerates development and maintains visual integrity.
- Define and uphold design excellence, contributing to best practices, team standards, and frameworks that enable high-velocity, high-quality execution across projects.
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy, prioritizing and managing multiple complex initiatives while remaining responsive to shifting business needs.
- Collaborate closely with the Design Director, helping to shape the broader design culture, processes, and team development roadmap.
Location & Travel Expectations:
- This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Fremont, California.
- The responsibilities of this role require attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly.
- Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

- 7+ years of end-to-end product design experience, with a proven ability to lead design initiatives that deliver meaningful business and customer impact.
- A compelling, polished portfolio that demonstrates deep expertise across responsive web, mobile (iOS/Android), and digital ecosystems—highlighting your ability to solve complex problems with clarity and craft.
- Demonstrated success in establishing and scaling visual and interaction design systems across platforms, including experience collaborating with design systems teams or component libraries.
- Expert knowledge of interaction patterns for responsive web and native mobile applications, with the ability to apply and adapt them thoughtfully across contexts.
- Outstanding communication and storytelling skills, with a track record of influencing cross-functional partners and guiding teams toward strategic design outcomes.
- Proficiency with industry-standard tools, including Figma (we are looking for a deep
- Figma expert), along with fluency in workflows involving prototyping, motion, and documentation.
- Experience mentoring or coaching other designers, and a passion for fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and excellence.
- A strategic mindset, with the ability to balance user needs, brand integrity, and business objectives in every design decision.

Pay Transparency
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Initial base salary range = $140,000 - $170,000
Internal leveling code: IC8
