What you’ll do
We are seeking a highly technical Lead Engineer – Vehicle Software Package Build & Compilation to own the creation, compilation, and packaging of complete vehicle software stacks for next-generation Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) platforms. This role focuses on building, compiling, and assembling full vehicle software packages from distributed ECU software deliveries, calibration sets, configuration manifests, and system dependencies. You will ensure that every vehicle software release is correctly compiled into a consistent, traceable, and flashable vehicle image for lab-car, HIL/SIL, integration, and production environments. Lead will operate at the core of SDV release engineering—transforming distributed ECU artifacts into a complete, validated vehicle software package.

- Own end-to-end vehicle software build and compilation pipelines for SDV platforms.
- Compile complete vehicle software packages from secondary ECU binaries, calibration artifacts and parameter sets, configuration manifests and feature flags, gateway and central compute software, diagnostics and service packages
- Generate fully integrated, flashable vehicle images for different vehicle variants and configurations.
- Ensure deterministic and reproducible vehicle builds across programs and hardware versions.
- Ensure correct bundling of ECU software, calibration data, and configuration definitions into unified vehicle releases.
- Manage packaging formats form vehicle flash images, OTA packages, lab-car and HIL/SIL deployment bundles
- Ensure package integrity, version consistency, and compatibility validation across components and support multi-variant packaging strategies across SDV platforms.
- Execute vehicle builds using manifest-driven compilation systems defining ECU inclusion and version mapping.
- Ensure manifests correctly resolve ECU software versions, calibration alignment, hardware dependencies, feature configuration rules
- Integrate vehicle build and compilation systems into CI/CD pipelines to automate triggering of vehicle builds from ECU delivery pipelines.
- Implement build validation gates for compilation success, artifact completeness, ECU compatibility
- Ensure vehicle software package consistency across multi-node distributed systems.
- Manage generation of ECU firmware binaries, bootloaders and application images, calibration datasets and parameter files, variant configuration artifacts, diagnostic and service packages
- Own artifact lifecycle management including storage, versioning, access control, and retention policies.
- Maintain full traceability across:
Source Code → Build → Binary → Calibration Set → Flash Package → Vehicle Deployment - Manage artifact repositories (e.g., Artifactory, Nexus, cloud-native storage systems).
- Enforce artifact integrity through hashing and checksum validation, digital signing and encryption, provenance and lineage tracking

Location & Travel Expectations:
- This role may be based out of the Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC.
- This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.
- Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time..

- Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 12+ yrs. Of experience
- Strong experience in build compilation, software packaging, or vehicle-level software assembly systems.
- Deep understanding of embedded ECU ecosystems and distributed automotive architectures.
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or similar.
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, Groovy).
- Experience with Git-based workflows, artifact management, and version control systems
- Expert knowledge of Jira, GitHub/GitLab, Jenkins, and Artifactory. ALM/PLM Proficiency in Siemens Polarion, IBM DOORS Next Gen, or PTC Windchill.
- Strong understanding of 1st principles in Engineering, result/solution oriented.
- Familiarity with SW for embedded systems, EE systems and architecture
- Familiarity with A2B, CAN, Automotive Ethernet, LIN, LVDS communication protocols and Vehicle Network tools, such as CANalyzer, CANoe, etc.‚
- Expertise with complex problem solving, data analysis, access/interpret/drive results with extended teams.
- Knowledge of Automotive design and development process, system requirements, and general engineering best practices

Pay Transparency
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Initial base salary range = $160,000.00 - $192,500.00
