System Engineering Lead is responsible for defining, developing, and managing the features and functions for vehicle infotainment and displays.  These systems include but are not limited to Navigation, Off-Road mapping, Routing, Energy applications, CarPlay, Android Auto, Casting, etc. This position bridges systems engineering, digital design, software development, and cross-functional coordination to ensure functional integration and compliance with vehicle-level requirements.  Most customer experiences rely heavily on the vehicle center and driver displays, which makes this role key in ensuring all display-exposed functions are working in concert.

Infotainment and Display Functions Support  

Functions that are exposed through the vehicle displays must be supported end-to-end, and respective cross-domain function owners coordinated to ensure seamless customer experience and regulatory compliance. Ownership of infotainment functions means taking full accountability for the design, development, integration, validation, and performance of infotainment-related vehicle features, from concept through production and post-launch support.  

Project Timeline for Function Development  

This position is responsible for the development, integration, and validation of all assigned infotainment functions in accordance with the project timeline. Completion of functional deliverables shall align with the agreed project milestones, including but not limited to prototype builds, design verification (VFF), product validation (PVS), and vehicle launch gates. All function-level software, hardware, and test deliverables must be completed, reviewed, and approved by Scout at each milestone to enable seamless system integration and program readiness.  

Roles and Responsibilities  

Overview of the roles and responsibilities are listed below for reference (scope to be adjusted further along the program development based on need).  

• Responsible for creating a solution for the complete product end to end – technically and commercially.  
• Identify customer needs in context of the solution.  
• Develop and maintain a product development roadmap to deliver features and functions.  
• Ensure alignment with the overall internal program and supplier milestones.  
• Track project tasks, workflow, priorities, and timing.  
• Review available solutions and propose improvements in technology and/or customer experience.  
• Liaise with the styling and concept teams to create innovative solutions for engineering and in-vehicle user experience.  
• Ensure maintenance and support for the solution over the development, testing and release phases.  
• Circle back to review requirements from an end user perspective Strong knowledge of JIRA or similar project tracking systems.  
• Strong background in infotainment audio and antenna product development a plus. 
• Own the end-to-end functional architecture of assigned infotainment systems. Define and manage system and subsystem requirements (functional and non-functional).   
• Develop logical and physical EE architecture in coordination with system engineers and domain experts.   
• Responsible for system level definition, requirements from EE, SW, ME and support EE, SW architecture design, integration at system, component level. Integral liaison between hardware, applications team, and core CFTs.   
• Responsible for end-to-end delivery of key system functions with release to program milestones   
• Collaborate with stakeholders through system “V” development from concept to launch with design reviews and CFT.   
• Responsible for functional, non-functional requirements, development, validation and signoffs.   
• Domain/working knowledge of SW controls, EE, Electronics, and expertise in development, testing and validation methods of mechatronics systems.   
• Develop component and system design, functional, EOL specifications, detailed test methods and system level DFMEA, DV, PV for complex mechatronic systems.   
• Analytical development using model-based design, MBSE/MBD simulation toolsets, MIL/SIL/HIL    
• Be a champion of 1st principles design methodology and use extensive problem-solving methods for debugging, issue resolution.   
• Develop and maintain Best Practices: Design Standards, Test Procedures, Technical Specifications, etc.   
• Tool landscape familiar with JIRA, Confluence, Codebeamer, Preevision, CAMEO, Github, JFROG etc.  
• Coordinate team responsibilities for Infotainment domain to meet deliverable goals:   
  • Collect, analyze, and document functional and non-functional requirements for Infotainment features (HMI, media, connectivity, system services, etc.). 
  • Transform high‑level product inputs into structured, clear, and testable software requirements. 
  • Maintain end‑to‑end traceability (stakeholder → system → software → test). 
  • Collaborate with UX, architects, and development teams to clarify behavior, edge cases, and acceptance criteria. 
  • Ensure requirements meet ASPICE SWE.1/SWE.2 expectations and support downstream SWE.3–SWE.6 activities. 
  • Participate in feature grooming, technical discussions, and change management 
  • Support integration and validation teams by clarifying expected behavior and resolving requirement gaps. 
  • Manage updates, change requests, and versioning in Codebeamer. 
  • Ensure alignment with design principles, system architecture, and platform constraints (Android-based or other IVI stack). 
  • Identify requirement risks, dependencies, and potential impacts across feature domains. 

Location & Travel Expectations:

• This role may be based out of the Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC or Novi, Michigan. 
• This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events. 
• Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field. 
• Master's degree preferred. 
• 12+ years of experience in requirements engineering and infotainment/automotive (digital cockpit) software development. 
• 10+ years of product and/or project management experience. 
• Strong understanding of IVI domains: HMI, media, connectivity, navigation, vehicle settings, or system services. 
• Understanding of software development life cycle, particularly for embedded or Infotainment systems. 
• Subject matter expert in Systems Engineering, Multi-domain physics, Complex systems design with EE, SW integration.   
• Exposure to Automotive technologies in Android Automotive, Vehicle Electronics, AUTOSAR, Telematics, ADAS / AD, Analytics, Cloud / Backend, Validation and Verification is desired.  
• Knowledge of regulatory authorities with jurisdiction over the automobile industry & safety regulations Familiarity with A2B, CAN, Automotive Ethernet, LIN, LVDS communication protocols and Vehicle Network tools, such as CANalyzer, CANoe, etc.    
• Expertise with complex problem solving, data analysis, access/interpret/drive results with extended teams.   
• Experience with requirements management tools (Codebeamer, Jama, Polarion, etc.). 
• Familiarity with SW for embedded systems, EE systems such as wiring and power distribution units.    
• Familiarity with ASPICE processes, especially SWE.1 and SWE.2. 
• Experience in platforms, variants, module selection and modification in the automotive industry is desired. 
• Strong understanding of 1st principles in Engineering, result/solution oriented   
• Ability to write clear, concise, and testable requirements. 
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross‑functional teams. 
• Exceptional work ethic, strong interpersonal skills, communication, collaboration, innovation, ownership, ability to develop & mutually thrive in working relationships.  
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed. Valid driver's license.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $160,000.00 - $192,500.00
