Electrical Engineering Intern

Reston, VA - Remote

Scout Space Inc. is excited to announce our 2025 internship program! We are seeking candidates in various engineering fields. Please see the below role definitions for these opportunities. All internship opportunities are mainly remote, but may involve in-person opportunities.

Scout is building a new way to see and operate in space: with a new paradigm of data empowering every satellite to make space safer. We are a rapidly-growing team; we are deploying real solutions to orbit; and our work will transform the face of spaceflight. We are looking for people that bring excitement and energy to our organization, are curious and eager to learn, and want to help drive our programs forward.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand and develop electrical requirements and constraints for spacecraft sensor subsystems.
  • Contribute to electrical design and thermal analysis.
    • Candidate should have PCB design experience with the ability to generate a well-developed schematic, proper component placement, careful routing of traces, consideration of power and ground planes, signal integrity management, thermal management, design rule checks, understanding fabrication limitations, and ensuring appropriate spacing between components and traces to prevent shorts.
    • Candidate should have a background in thermal analysis for PCB design. They should have a firm understanding of requirements such as how much power each component on the PCB will dissipate, a component's thermal resistance rating, thermal impedance(meaning the hotter or cooler it gets the more/less resistance it will have) of an element, etc.
  • Design and develop prototype systems for lab test equipment.
    • The ideal candidate should be able to design intuitive controls that are easy to navigate under varying conditions, develop software with a simple and intuitive interface that facilitates both manual and automated processes, build the system with modular components that can be easily upgraded or replaced as needs change and design with the flexibility to integrate new testing protocols, experimental setups, or data analysis tools as the lab’s research need to grow.

Requirements:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or other related field.
  • Rising Seniors, or Graduate students only.
  • Python familiarity.
  • Highly preferred: Demonstrated collaborative experience in a business or project environment.

Benefits & Perks:

  • Flexible work hours
  • Free Scout Swag!
  • Opportunities for professional development and growth
  • A dynamic and collaborative work environment at the forefront of space technology
  • Be a part of a team that is making history!
