Barback

Indigo Grand Cayman

Why We're Here

At Hotel Indigo® we serve the curious – people who are inspired by new places, new people and new ideas.  With hotels in culturally diverse locations all over the world, no two properties are the same. Each is part of the pulse and the rhythm of a place, drawing on the story of its local area to inspire every aspect of the hotel, from intriguing design to distinctive local ingredients in our menus. We’re a global family of properties, bound together by a common desire to give our guests not merely a room, but a place.

How We're Different

Hotel Indigo, Grand Cayman is an upper upscale lifestyle hotel opened in the Spring of 2024, offering 282 guest rooms with views across the Caribbean Sea, multiple restaurants, an expansive pool deck and rooftop bar, for a uniquely local experience that brings into harmony the novel and the known, awakening the curiosity to join in, venture out, and encounter the meaningful connections that lead to life’s true riches.

Just as no two neighborhoods are alike, no two Hotel Indigo hotels are alike, and no two Team Members are alike.  We are looking for bright, confident, and free-spirited people to join our team!

What You'll Do

The Barback assists bartenders with essential support in maintaining a well-stocked, clean, and efficient bar environment. The role is key in ensuring a positive guest experience by preparing and restocking supplies, maintaining bar cleanliness, and providing prompt support to bartenders during busy service times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a fully stocked bar by ensuring supplies like glassware, ice, garnishes, mixers, and alcohol are readily available throughout service. Restock items quickly as they deplete.
  • Assist in setting up the bar at the start of the shift, including organizing equipment, arranging supplies, and preparing garnishes and other essentials.
  • Keep the bar area, equipment, and storage areas clean, sanitized, and organized throughout the shift. This includes wiping down surfaces, washing and drying glassware, and sweeping/mopping floors as needed.
  • Support bartenders by fetching and delivering drinks, ingredients, and supplies quickly. Help with simple drink preparation tasks as directed by the bartender.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels, reporting shortages to bartenders or the bar manager to prevent service interruptions.
  •  Engage with customers courteously and professionally if approached, helping create a welcoming environment while directing any specific orders or requests to the bartender.
  • Adherence to Health and Safety Standards: Follow health, safety, and sanitation regulations to maintain a clean and safe work environment, including proper handling and storage of all bar equipment and ingredients.
  • End-of-Shift Responsibilities: Assist with closing duties by cleaning, organizing, and restocking the bar for the next day’s service.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a bar or restaurant setting is preferred but not required; on-the-job training provided.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and quick problem-solving.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic knowledge of bar equipment, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages is a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and handle physically demanding tasks.
  • Must be comfortable working in a noisy, busy environment.

A successful barback thrives in fast-paced environments, supporting the team proactively and responding quickly to the bar’s needs. This role is a great entry point for those interested in learning more about bartending and customer service within the hospitality industry.
