Job Purpose
The Plant Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a utility-scale solar and/or energy storage facility. This position provides on-site leadership for all aspects of plant operations, technician performance, and compliance. The Plant Manager ensures field execution aligns with company procedures, regulatory requirements, and internal performance expectations.
This role reports to the Regional Manager and serves as the primary point of contact for both internal teams and external stakeholders.

Key Deliverables
On a daily basis, the Plant Manager delivers in the following areas:
- Operational Leadership: Owns site-level execution, performance, safety, and compliance.
- People Management: Leads and manages the technician team, including coaching, training, and performance management.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Interfaces with internal departments and external customers to ensure site performance and compliance expectations are met.
- Asset Stewardship: Maintains all plant equipment, tools, and fleet assets to company standards.
Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Serve as the primary authority for site safety, technical execution, and performance.
- Oversee safe execution of all electrical and mechanical maintenance activities.
- Ensure daily maintenance activities (preventive, corrective, predictive) are properly executed and documented in the CMMS.
- Act as the technical escalation point for complex troubleshooting, outages, and equipment issues.
- Oversee and enforce compliance with all regulatory obligations, including NERC, FERC, ERCOT, EPA, and local AHJs.
- Lead the site's response to audits, inspections, and reporting related to compliance or operational incidents.
- Coordinate with internal groups such as Performance Engineering, SCADA, Asset Management, and Supply Chain to optimize plant performance.
- Ensure all on-site vendors and contractors are operating safely and within scope.
- Conduct regular field audits of work quality, safety, and equipment condition.
People Management
- Manage a team of technicians, including workload delegation, technical oversight, and professional development.
- Conduct formal and informal performance reviews, provide direct coaching, and address behavioral or performance issues in coordination with HR.
- Set and enforce expectations around safety, quality, documentation, and communication.
- Develop technician training plans and support onboarding of new team members.
- Review technician timecards, ensure schedule adherence, and manage shift coverage.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the site’s primary interface for internal departments:
- Performance Engineering
- Asset Management
- Account Management
- Compliance
- Supply Chain
- Human Resources
- Represent the plant in customer interactions, off-taker communications, and site visits.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of plant status, outages, and performance trends to internal and external stakeholders.
Asset & Cost Stewardship
- Maintain all plant-owned tools, equipment, and fleet vehicles to company standards.
- Oversee tool calibration, equipment inspections, vehicle maintenance, and inventory tracking.
- Exercise discretion and judgment when making decisions regarding local purchases, vendor use, and cost control.
- Monitor and report cost drivers at the plant level and communicate budget risks promptly.
- Ensure CMMS data is accurate, complete, and supports decision-making across teams.
Safety Leadership
- Serve as the on-site safety champion, ensuring adherence to all electrical and environmental safety policies.
- Maintain and enforce understanding of:
- Arc-flash boundaries and PPE requirements
- AC vs. DC system risks and safe work practices
- Minimum approach distances
- LOTO procedures and switching plans
- Lead safety briefings, job hazard analyses, and corrective actions after incidents or near misses.
- Support company initiatives related to safety training, incident prevention, and cultural reinforcement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in utility-scale solar PV and/or energy storage system (BESS) operations and maintenance.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and maintaining inverters, transformers, switchgear, BESS systems, and related control equipment.
- Working knowledge of CMMS platforms, maintenance planning, and field documentation standards.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety, arc-flash protection, and applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70E).
- Experience coordinating with cross-functional departments and third-party stakeholders.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance including NERC, FERC, and EPA preferred.
Work Environment & Travel
- Primary work location is the assigned solar plant; occasional travel to other sites, training, or company meetings may be required.
- Must be able to walk 2+ miles per day in field conditions, climb ladders, and lift up to 80 lbs.
- Work may be performed outdoors in various weather conditions and around high-voltage equipment.
