Senior Product Designer
About Semgrep
Semgrep is on a mission to make it expensive to exploit software. As the team behind the most popular SAST, we built the Semgrep AppSec Platform to deliver industry-leading code, dependency, and secrets scanning to enable organizations to ship secure code quickly without slowing down development.
With fast, customizable code analysis across large codebases, Semgrep helps teams catch vulnerabilities early and fix them faster. Leading companies like Snowflake, Plaid, Figma, Lyft, and Dropbox rely on Semgrep to secure their software.
Semgrep is funded by top investors, including Felicis Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Menlo Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, and Sequoia Capital.
About the role
We are seeking a Product Designer to help expand our small design team of two. As a member of the team, you'll work with engineers, PMs, and design peers to research, create, and refine world-class product experiences for security and software engineers. You'll make complex workflows and technical topics accessible to a broad audience of engineers and security stakeholders, all while securing some of the world's most important code (Slack, Shopify, Dropbox, GitLab, Plaid, Snowflake, Lyft, One Medical, and more)! Through Semgrep's culture of being audacious, doing things fast, and relentlessly improving, you will impact and influence everything we do at this growth-stage company.
What you’ll do
- Rapidly prototype concepts to test hypotheses. Collaborate with product managers and engineers to execute shippable solutions.
- Contribute to and lead strategic decisions around product definitions and roadmaps, grounding decisions in user needs and insights.
- Advocate for simple, consistent, and thoughtfully designed product workflows across Semgrep’s products.
- Regularly interact with users and synthesize the knowledge you gain about them, their needs, and their workflows.
- Collaborate with other designers and provide feedback and critique during review sessions.
- Mentor and guide other members of the design team. Educate and create tools to help non-designers make better tactical design decisions.
- Build effective working relationships across functions and involve the wider team in the design process.
You are ideal for this role if you have
- 4+ years of product design experience working on digital products; it's a plus if your work includes engineer-focused, B2B, or enterprise products.
- A strong understanding of software engineering or experience designing for a technical or engineering audience.
- A desire to do hands-on user research on an early-stage team, from planning and recruiting to analysis and insights delivery.
- Enthusiasm for simplifying complex workflows, and a deep curiosity about users and their problems.
- Ability to balance working strategically and getting details right with iterating quickly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Some example projects that you might work on include
- Designing and simplifying how users configure and model complex security policies to secure their codebases.
- Integrate cutting-edge AI into workflows in strategic ways, such as contextualizing and prioritizing our products’ security findings.
- Designing a Semgrep editor (IDE) that makes it simple to write and share powerful Semgrep rules with the community.
- Choosing, codifying, and teaching our UI/UX components and patterns to the broader team to enable them to self-serve and "do the right thing" without a dedicated designer for a project.

What we offer
Our goal is to competitively and fairly compensate every Semgrep employee with a system that equally rewards those who are vocal and those who are less comfortable making demands during the final steps of the hiring process. To that end, we generate internal compensation bands that are used when discussing and negotiating salaries. We update these based on market data to make sure they’re above the average for comparable roles.
We also invest in our employees’ well-being and long term success with comprehensive health plans, generous vacation time, 401k, learning stipends, and more. Our benefits are for everyone, so that you’re taken care of, and we work with individuals to make sure they have what they need, whether that’s quiet work space, adjusted hours, or something else.
Who we are
We have people from France and the Philippines, physics and philosophy, formal methods research and full fledged corporations. We’re new parents and new grads, aspiring authors and aspiring Americans, dog lovers and dogfooders. We get together often to bike, bake, and meet up in parks. In our interactions, we believe respect and honesty go hand in hand, and prioritize both.
