Senior Product Designer
About Semgrep
Semgrep is on a mission to make it expensive to exploit software. As the team behind the most popular SAST, we built the Semgrep AppSec Platform to deliver industry-leading code, dependency, and secrets scanning to enable organizations to ship secure code quickly without slowing down development.
With fast, customizable code analysis across large codebases, Semgrep helps teams catch vulnerabilities early and fix them faster. Leading companies like Snowflake, Plaid, Figma, Lyft, and Dropbox rely on Semgrep to secure their software.
Semgrep is funded by top investors, including Felicis Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Menlo Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, and Sequoia Capital.
About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our small, but growing design team of two. In this role, you'll work with engineers, PMs, and fellow designers to research, design, and refine product experiences that make security and software engineering workflows more intuitive. You'll bring clarity to complex, technical problems and will champion both craft and systems thinking to ensure our products are simple, consistent, and delightful to use.
You’ll have the opportunity to influence not only the product, but also the culture of design at a fast-moving growth-stage company while helping to secure some of the world’s most important code.
What you’ll do
- Lead and execute ambiguously scoped design initiatives within and across product teams.
- Collaborate with product managers and engineers to define product direction and roadmap decisions that are grounded in user needs.
- Advocate for simple and thoughtfully designed workflows across Semgrep products, owning UX metrics like task success, time on task, and support ticket volume.
- Conduct hands-on user research and synthesize and share the knowledge you gain about users and their workflows.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships and involve the wider team in the design process.
- Contribute to design critiques and mentor teammates. Raise the bar for design quality and contribute to a culture of thoughtful feedback.
- Create tools that enable non-designers to make better design decisions to ensure design becomes a multiplier across the organization.
- Establish design standards and processes that will serve as the foundation for our growing team, helping scale design’s impact.
Some example projects that you might work on include
- Designing experiences for AppSec engineers and developers who work in the IDE or through the MCP server.
- Reimagining the information architecture of the Semgrep app to better match user mental models and scale with our growing product surface.
- Evolving workflows like triage, vulnerability detection, and policy creation to be intuitive, trustworthy, and AI-powered.
- Shaping and codifying our design system components to enable the broader team to self-serve.
You are ideal for this role if you have
- 5+ years of product design experience working on digital products, ideally with exposure to engineer-focused, B2B, or enterprise products.
- A strong understanding of software engineering or experience designing for a technical audience.
- A track record for simplifying complex workflows and making abstract problems more concrete.
- Enthusiasm for user research and a curiosity that motivates you to dig deep into user pain points and behaviors.
- The ability to balance systems thinking with attention to detail, and to iterate quickly while maintaining a high quality bar.
- An interest in experimenting with and prototyping using emerging tools as part of your design process.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Location
Remote friendly but must be willing to Travel to SF or NY offices at least 1 week per quarter.

What we offer
Our goal is to competitively and fairly compensate every Semgrep employee with a system that equally rewards those who are vocal and those who are less comfortable making demands during the final steps of the hiring process. To that end, we generate internal compensation bands that are used when discussing and negotiating salaries. We update these based on market data to make sure they’re above the average for comparable roles.
We also invest in our employees’ well-being and long term success with comprehensive health plans, generous vacation time, 401k, learning stipends, and more. Our benefits are for everyone, so that you’re taken care of, and we work with individuals to make sure they have what they need, whether that’s quiet work space, adjusted hours, or something else.
Who we are
We have people from France and the Philippines, physics and philosophy, formal methods research and full fledged corporations. We’re new parents and new grads, aspiring authors and aspiring Americans, dog lovers and dogfooders. We get together often to bike, bake, and meet up in parks. In our interactions, we believe respect and honesty go hand in hand, and prioritize both.
