Salary - $147,189 to $161,438 
 

Position Description 

The Director of Engineering is responsible for maintaining attractive, safe, and fully operable buildings and grounds, requiring a high level of property maintenance knowledge. All aspects of the presentation of Sensei Porcupine Creek must always meet the criteria standards of company and brand. Accountable for managing budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation with an emphasis on maintaining corporate standards and regulatory requirements. Contributes to the daily operational success of the Retreat and will work towards advancing the ownership’s vision to elevate and innovate in key areas while managing productivity, efficiency and with quality throughout.   

Responsibilities

  • Collect and verify, analyze and report internal facility management data to ensure impeccable maintenance of all aspects of the facilities and grounds 
  • Manage and oversee facilities maintenance and grounds staff, internal and 3rd party 
  • Ensure and monitor compliance with codes, regulations, policies and standards 
  • Plan, direct and manage/oversee facility management business and operational technologies 
  • Continually assess the condition of the facilities and grounds and address all needed improvements expeditiously 
  • Make decisions and recommendations regarding the most appropriate way to provide maintenance services in a financially responsible manner 
  • Manage/oversee the acquisition, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal of building systems and structural, interior, exterior and grounds elements 
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current products and technology for fixed assets 
  • Manage/oversee the vendor contracting process with regards to maintenance, facilities management and landscaping 
  • Develop policies and guidelines related to usage and maintenance standards 
  • Oversee the financial management of the Engineering department 
  • Ensure the hotel/resort’s emergency preparedness programs are in place and up to date 
  • Ensure all required Fire, Life Safety equipment and procedures are in place and regular training and certification is conducted 
  • Maintain environmental stewardship & sustainability aligned with Sensei standards 
  • Develop, recommend, manage and oversee environmental impact programs  
  • Maintain knowledge of all technology platforms and applications required for proper maintenance of facilities and grounds 
  • Understand the Sensei mission, philosophy and brand standards and develop a team culture around the core company mission 
  • Ensure standard operating practices (P&Ps) are in place and regularly updated, train staff to such standards and maintain accountability 
  • Lead by example with the ability to mentor, inspire, empathize and establish and communicate clear expectations aligned with the Sensei Culture, brand standards of guest experience and service guidelines 
  • Maintain and monitor execution and follow-through of agreed upon daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly communication meetings and resulting actions items and initiatives  
  • Maintain a strong unwavering commitment to ensure employees are well cared for in their daily work and that wellbeing activities and opportunities for growth are provided 
  • All related duties as assigned by the General Manager 
  • Leadership – Maintain a positive, upbeat role, promote and exemplify Company values and represents departmental objectives and interests to internal and external customers
  • Customer Service – Follow up on complaints, questions, and concerns; respond to internal/external customer needs in a friendly, timely and efficient manner
  • Teamwork - Develop and promote teamwork and cooperation among co-workers
  • Safety – Comply with established safe work practices and attend to all safety-related training provided or made available by the Company.
  • Due to the intimate nature of the resort with limited number of guests on property, must assist teams laterally across all departments to lead a seamless guest flow throughout the different resort spaces.

Requirements 

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience actively serving in a facilities engineering leadership role in a luxury hotel/resort environment to include spa and recreational facilities 
  • Extensive project management experience 
  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and general maintenance skills 
  • Must be familiar with Facility Preventative Maintenance Programs
  • Must have working knowledge of diagnostic equipment and machine shop tools
  • Must have working knowledge of CAL OSHA, HazMat, and building and fire codes
  • Must be strategic and have strong business acumen
  • Strong organizational, computer and leadership skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Technology and applications such as Excel, Word, Asana, Slack and others
  • Ability to recruit, retain, develop, motivate and inspire a team
  • Discerning attention to detail, brand presentation and cleanliness

 Required Technical / Other Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess competent computer and technological skills
  • Must demonstrate the ability to read blueprints, tech manuals, and manufacturer's data

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Must possess a valid California's driver's license and an acceptable MVR (Moving Vehicle Record)

Working Conditions 

  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, lift and bend 
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including holidays, weekends and evenings 
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions
