Principal Data Analyst - Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a Principal Data Analyst to serve as a hands-on technical leader and expert in advanced analytics. This high-level IC role is focused on architecting and executing the most complex analytical projects, building sophisticated models, establishing technical standards, and driving significant business impact through data expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Advanced Analytics Execution & Architecture (Approx. 70% of Time)
- Technical Ownership: Serve as the subject matter expert, leading and driving the most complex prescriptive and predictive analytics projects using Python for model development, advanced statistical analysis, and machine learning application.
- Platform Mastery: Architect and execute efficient, scalable data processing and modeling workflows utilizing Databricks (or similar cloud/distributed computing platforms) for large, complex datasets.
- Methodology & Strategy: Consult with business leaders to define the analytical approach for key strategic initiatives, translating ambiguous business questions into rigorous, data-driven solutions.
- Data Sourcing & Integration: Research, identify, and execute the integration of new, high-value data sources, setting technical standards for data quality and integration across the team.
- Technical Mentorship: Provide technical guidance, code review, and mentorship to other analysts on best practices for coding, model building, and tool optimization.
- Visualization & Reporting Standards (Approx. 20% of Time)
- Visualization Standards: Develop high-impact, scalable dashboards and visualizations in Power BI, setting the technical and design standards for reporting quality, accuracy, and efficiency across the organization.
- Infrastructure Design: Design and implement the automated and scalable backend structure necessary to feed accurate and efficient reports and dashboards.
- Strategic Communication & Influence (Approx. 10% of Time)
- Technical Storytelling: Develop high-quality presentations and artifacts that clearly translate complex model output, technical findings, and analytical results into actionable, executive-level business strategies.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Influence technical direction and data strategy across multiple product and engineering teams without direct reporting authority.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Extensive experience (typically 7+ years) as a high-performing Individual Contributor (IC) in a data analyst or data science role, demonstrating technical leadership.
- Technical Expertise (Must Haves): Expert-level proficiency in Python (for advanced analytics/modeling), Databricks (or similar cloud/distributed computing platform), and Power BI.
- Analytical Depth: Expertise in statistical analysis, machine learning algorithms, model validation, and advanced data manipulation (e.g., SQL).
- Soft Skills: Proven ability to work autonomously, lead projects end-to-end, and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
