Director, Business Development

New York, NY (Hybrid)

Behind many of life’s most important transactions like buying a house, applying for a mortgage, getting a small business loan, or refinancing a credit card, is a network of credit relationships. Setpoint provides critical infrastructure for relationships between the world’s largest banks, credit funds and capital markets counterparties. Because when capital works together, ambition goes further.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Director to join our Sales team, reporting to one of our Managing Directors. This is an opportunity to bring your knowledge of credit markets and existing industry relationships to a growing business, develop new institutional partnerships, and revolutionize how the asset-backed finance market functions. As private credit continues to expand, we’re building the infrastructure to support the next generation of growth across the market.

We’re looking for someone who has in-depth knowledge of capital markets and hands on experience in private credit, knows how to navigate the playing field, and can turn a strong network into meaningful commercial opportunities. You’ll work closely with sales leadership and the broader team to build relationships, open doors, and bring new business to Setpoint.

Who Will Love This Job

  • A relationship builder: You have a genuine network across credit funds, asset managers, banks, originators, and other contacts in the ABF ecosystem, and know how to turn those relationships into opportunities for Setpoint.
  • A commercial operator: You understand how to create opportunities and turn them into deals, identify where Setpoint can add value, and have the instincts to move relationships toward revenue.
  • A credit-market expert: You understand private credit and asset-backed finance like the back of your hand and the needs of the institutions involved.
  • An entrepreneurial self-starter: You’re comfortable operating in ambiguity, own outcomes, and find ways to make progress without waiting for a playbook.
  • A curious problem-solver: You learn new concepts quickly, understand client pain points, and can translate what you hear into actionable insights for the business.
  • A strong communicator: You build credibility with senior stakeholders, communicate clearly, and represent Setpoint effectively in the market.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and develop relationships with banks, credit funds, originators, and other relevant financial institutions to generate new business.
  • Leverage your existing network to open doors, develop a pipeline, and create commercial opportunities for Setpoint.
  • Own coverage across a portfolio of institutions and relationships, identifying where Setpoint’s current product can deliver value.
  • Partner closely with your Managing Director and sales leadership to develop account strategies, prioritize opportunities, and drive deals from initial conversation through close.
  • Develop deep expertise in your coverage markets and help Setpoint expand into adjacent asset classes as product capabilities and market opportunities evolve.
  • Work with Product and other cross-functional partners to communicate client needs, share market feedback, and help shape solutions that address real customer problems.
  • Represent Setpoint at industry events and through targeted client meetings and relationship-building activities.
  • Help strengthen the team’s approach to coverage, pipeline development, and go-to-market execution as the business scales.

You Should Have

  • Approximately 5–8 years of relevant experience in asset-backed finance, private credit, or structured credit. A strong understanding of private credit, asset-backed finance, and the institutions and required relationships that drive these markets.
  • An established, relevant network across credit funds, banks, originators, or capital markets counterparties, with the ability to identify specific relationships you can activate.
  • Commercial instincts and evidence of building relationships that lead to business, whether through sales, origination, investing, banking, or another client-facing role.
  • The ability to understand deal mechanics, identify customer needs, and communicate credibly with senior stakeholders.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, high ownership, and the drive to deliver exceptional results in a fast-moving environment.
  • A collaborative approach and interest in helping build a growing sales organization.
  • Willingness to travel regularly for in-person meetings, client entertainment, and industry events.

Relevant backgrounds may include origination roles at credit funds, insurance companies, or ABS / warehouse lending at a bank, or capital markets roles at a fintech lending platform. We care more about relevant market knowledge, relationships, and commercial ability than a single prescribed career path. A SaaS sales background is not required.

Total Compensation: $150,000 - $350,000+, including commissions, dependent on multiple factors, which include the candidate's skills, experience, location and other qualifications.
