Position Overview:

The Nurse Practitioner provides advanced sexual health care and takes an active leadership role for the daily clinical operations of the Foundation, reporting to the Clinic Director. The NP works under a clinical scope of practice with the Senior Director of Clinical Services and Medical Director.

This is a full-time position working four (4) 10-hour, rotating shifts per week, including Saturdays.

Essential Duties:

 

  • Obtaining medical history and physical, 
  • Specimen collection and phlebotomy, 
  • Administration of treatments, 
  • Performing point of care lab tests and microscopy, 
  • Management of Hepatitis C treatment, 
  • PrEP and nPEP care, 
  • Short-term HIV care, 
  • Client counseling and education.
  • Administrative duties as required.
  • Perform moderate complexity lab testing.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Protocol Development: Assists the Nurse Manager in developing, implementing and evaluating best practices, protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Public Health Reporting: Ensures Confidential Morbidity Reports are submitted to the Department of Public Health and addresses any submission issues.
  • Clinical Research: Serve as a clinical coordinator for various research protocols. Maintains regulatory compliance through proper documentation and implementation of research interventions.

  • Dependability: Completes tasks on time; takes responsibility for own actions; reliable

Physical Requirements and Work Environments:

  • Skill in operating office equipment such as a personal computer, copy machine and telephone system. Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Must be able to differentiate colors to interpret lab tests.
  • The position may have exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious agents. Works directly with bio-hazardous materials and infectious wastes. Adhere to strict needle and “sharp” safety guidelines.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Nursing required.
  • Current California Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license. Must have or obtain certification as a Nurse practitioner (NP) within 6 months of hire.
  • Employee must maintain an active Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner License with the California Board of Nursing.
  • Current DEA and California Furnishing license required.
  • DEA Buprenorphine waiver (desired)
  • Current Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Current California Certification as an HIV Counselor required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Training in Good Clinical Practices, research ethics, and IATA shipping preferred.
  • At least one year’s experience in outpatient sexual health clinic preferred.
  • At least one year’s experience in clinical research preferred.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish, Russian, Cantonese, or ASL preferred

 

This position will have access to protected health information (PHI) and may only access, use or disclose the minimum information necessary to perform their designated role on behalf of San Francisco AIDS Foundation, regardless of the extent of access provided.

Work Environment:

  • This position is primarily located at 470 Castro Street, San Francisco, however it may occasionally require traveling to other office locations or off-site meetings as required by the job. Role may include evening and weekend coverage.
