Position Overview:

The role of NP Nurse Manager  provides oversight and management of San Francisco AIDS Foundation clinics as well as providing protocol-based clinical and nursing care to clients. This position serves as a lead provider and is responsible for managing the nurse practitioner team directly.  The NP Nurse Manager will work collaboratively with the RN Nurse Manager and the Laboratory Services Manager on day to day clinic flow.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Clinical Services: Works under an expanded scope of practice with the Medical Director to provide care to clients seeking screening for sexual health services, hepatitis C treatment, Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and non-Occupational Post Exposure Prophylaxis (nPEP) services. Provides direct clinical services as defined by clinic protocols and treatment guidelines including obtaining medical history and physical, specimen collection, high-volume phlebotomy, administration of treatments, performing point of care lab tests, management of hepatitis C, PrEP and nPEP care, client counseling, and education. Works with Magnet and Testing Services staff and other volunteers to ensure quality of care. Provides referrals as appropriate to outside providers
  • Program Management: Serves as a clinic leader to ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Manages daily clinic responsibilities including daily assignments, ensuring proper clinic flow, supervision of staff, volunteers, and client related issues. Participates in quality improvement initiatives to ensure the highest quality of ongoing clinical care services across all sites. 
  • Program development- Works with the Director of Clinical Services and serves as Clinic Lead for development and implementation of SFAF’s Transgender Health Program at all SFAF sites. This includes development of protocols, service provision and training staff
  • Clinical Services: Works with the Director of Clinical Services to develop clinical, treatment, and prevention protocols. Supports the development of new programs and services to address the needs of the community aligned with the Strategic Plan.
  • Supervision,: Supervises and ensures completion of daily clinical and administrative responsibilities for nurse practitioner staff.  Ensures clinical staff are compliant with annual trainings, certifications, and scopes of practice to maintain licensure. Plans, coordinates and executes yearly PPD placements and influenza vaccinations for all SFAF staff.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Scheduling: With the support of the Director of Clinical Services communicates, and helps to maintain the monthly staffing schedules for clinical staff; ensures the clinic meets staffing requirements.
  • Emergency Services: Conducts weekly and monthly inspections, maintenance, and replacement of emergency equipment.
  • Public Health Reporting: Ensures Confidential Morbidity Reports are submitted to the Department of Public Health and addresses any submission issues across jurisdictions.
  • Policy Development, Implementation, & Communication: Works with the Director of Clinical Services to develop clinic policies and procedures. Ensures policies are effectively implemented.
  • Laboratory Testing Personnel: Perform moderate complexity lab testing per the laboratory guidelines under the direction of the Laboratory Director.
  • Research: Works with the Director of Clinical Services and Vice President of Medical Affairs to manage research projects, including providing logistical feedback, staff training, overseeing implementation, and maintaining partnerships.
  • Training: With the support of the Director of Clinical Services, helps develop and deliver training for clinical staff and volunteers.. 
  • Mentor: Advise and support SFAF staff in building careers in healthcare and advancing in the clinical services team.
  • Compliance: participate in compliance, quality assurance, and evaluation activities.
  • Outreach: Represent and/or oversee other staff in representing SFAF at meetings, conferences, and other events.  Works with the Director of Clinical Services to engage with other community organizations, as well as supporting organizations in implementing similar models of medical care.  Develops community education with the Marketing Communications department.

Supervision: Full time and per diem Nurse Practitioner Staff

Physical Requirements and Work Environments:

  • This is a full-time position working 4-10 hour rotating shifts per week, including selected Saturdays.
  • Skill in operating office equipment such as a personal computer, copy machine and telephone system. Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Must be able to differentiate colors to interpret lab tests.
  • The position may have exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious agents. Works directly with bio-hazardous materials and infectious wastes. Adhere to strict needle and “sharp” safety guidelines.

Education and Experience

  • Current California Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license. Must have or obtain certification as a Nurse practitioner (NP) within 6 months of hire.
  • Employee must maintain an active Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner License with the California Board of Nursing.
  • Current DEA and California Furnishing license required.
  • Current Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Current California Certification as an HIV Counselor required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Training in Good Clinical Practices, research ethics, and IATA shipping preferred.
  • One year experience in leadership or management role preferred.
  • At least one year experience in outpatient sexual health clinic preferred.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish, Russian, Cantonese, or ASL preferred.

Work Environment:

This position is primarily located at 470 Castro Street, San Francisco, however it may occasionally require traveling to other office locations or off-site meetings as required by the job. Role may include evening and weekend coverage.
