About the Platform Team:
The Platform team empowers engineering teams and other functions at Shakepay by providing the tools, infrastructure, and best practices they need to be autonomous, productive, and reliable.
As a Staff Platform Engineer, your mission is to shape and evolve the internal platform that powers engineering across Shakepay. You’ll operate at a company-wide level, designing foundational systems and platform capabilities that enable teams to build, ship, and operate software quickly and reliably.
You’ll play a key role in defining the architecture and long-term direction of our developer platform - improving engineering velocity, reliability, and operational excellence across the organization.
This includes helping build an agentic layer of the platform, developing intelligent tooling and workflows that automate repetitive work, assist engineers in complex tasks, and enable teams across the company to interact with systems and data in new ways.
You’ll work closely with engineering leadership and product teams to ensure our platform scales with Shakepay’s growth and continues to enable teams to ship with confidence.
The base salary range for this position is $210,000+CAD. Actual compensation is determined based on skills, experience, and role level. Exceptional candidates may be considered above the top of the range, and pay can increase quickly for those who make a big impact in the role.
What you’ll do:
- Define and evolve the architecture of Shakepay’s internal developer platform
- Design and build foundational infrastructure that supports our growing systems and teams
- Lead the development of internal tooling and automation that significantly improves developer productivity
- Architect and implement infrastructure-as-code and GitOps practices across the platform
- Build and evolve observability systems including monitoring, alerting, and dashboards
- Design and implement AI-powered internal tools and agentic workflows that automate operational and development tasks
- Improve system reliability, scalability, and performance across our production environment
- Partner with product and infrastructure teams to drive best practices in system design and operations
- Lead technical initiatives that span multiple engineering teams
- Mentor engineers and guide technical decision-making through design reviews and architecture discussions
- Influence the long-term technical direction of our infrastructure and platform ecosystem
- Contribute to incident response and drive improvements to operational resilience
What we’re looking for:
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, SRE, or DevOps roles
- Strong programming experience (e.g., Go, Python, JavaScript, or similar)
- Deep experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems
- Extensive experience with infrastructure-as-code and automated deployment systems
- Experience designing internal platforms or developer tooling used by multiple teams
- Experience improving developer experience and engineering velocity through platform improvements
- Experience building tools or workflows that leverage AI/LLMs to automate tasks or augment developer productivity
- Strong system design and architectural thinking
- Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives across teams
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- A pragmatic mindset focused on solving real business problems
Bonus points:
- Experience with technologies such as Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS, Kafka, PostgreSQL, ArgoCD, Helm, or Datadog
- Experience designing internal developer platforms or self-service infrastructure
- Experience building infrastructure in fintech or other regulated environments
- Experience supporting high-scale production systems
- Familiarity with Bitcoin and curiosity to learn more
