Embedded Engineer - Connected Device Platforms

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated Embedded Engineer to join our connected products team, working with various chipset platforms to develop and test software solutions for IoT device control applications. This role offers excellent learning opportunities in embedded development, working closely with senior engineers on cutting-edge connected device solutions integrated with our custom AWS platform.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development & Testing

  • Write, debug, and maintain C/C++ code for embedded systems using various chipsets from leading manufacturers
  • Develop device control applications using chipset SDKs for Wi-Fi and connectivity-enabled products
  • Implement MQTT communication protocols for seamless integration with our custom AWS IoT platform
  • Create and execute comprehensive test plans for embedded software components across connected device portfolios
  • Perform unit testing, integration testing, and cloud connectivity validation across multiple product platforms

Platform Integration

  • Work with various embedded development environments and toolchains (GCC, FreeRTOS, LWIP)
  • Integrate software components with diverse chipsets for Wi-Fi controllers, connectivity modules, and device control systems
  • Develop and maintain MQTT client implementations for reliable cloud communication
  • Support bring-up activities for new hardware platforms and product variants
  • Collaborate on SDK customization and platform-specific optimizations for connected device functionality

AWS Integration & Device Control

  • Implement device control logic and state management for IoT applications
  • Develop robust MQTT messaging protocols for device-to-cloud communication
  • Work with AWS IoT Core services through our custom platform integration
  • Ensure reliable connectivity and failover mechanisms for connected products
  • Support over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities and remote device management

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Programming experience in C/C++ (academic or professional)
  • Basic understanding of embedded systems concepts and microcontroller programming
  • Familiarity with Linux development environments and command-line tools
  • Knowledge of software testing methodologies and debugging techniques
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals and wireless communication concepts

Desired Experience

  • Knowledge of AWS IoT services (Core, Device Management, Fleet Provisioning) or other cloud platform integration
  • Understanding of Wi-Fi protocols (802.11 standards) and connectivity standards (WPA/WPA2/WPA3, mesh networking)
  • Exposure to real-time operating systems (FreeRTOS, embedded Linux)
  • Experience with MQTT protocol or other IoT messaging systems
  • Experience with version control systems (Git)
  • Familiarity with hardware interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, GPIO)

Reporting Structure

This position reports to Senior Embedded Software Engineers and will receive mentorship and technical guidance for professional development in connected device engineering.
