R&D Mechanical Engineer – Ninja

SharkNinja is looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join the Ninja R&D team. We seek a creative problem solver who possesses an intuitive grasp of physics and engineering fundamentals, is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and is passionate about solving the tough engineering challenges required to be the first to deliver innovative new products to market.

The R&D team researches and develops new technologies and integrates them into new products. They are responsible for the performance of our products and “how they work” – how a coffee maker makes coffee, how an air fryer cooks, how a blender blends, or how a new yet-to-be-invented kitchen device does new kitchen device things. R&D Mechanical Engineers design and build prototypes, set up and execute test plans to learn how things work, analyze data to pull out deeper insights, and put all these learnings into action by making design changes to our products. This role is involved in the full product lifecycle from early-stage concept development all the way to mass production, continuously working to push performance and resolve issues. The core focus of this role is always technology R&D and improving product performance, but R&D Engineers here are not limited to purely technical thinking and work. They must be able to put themselves in the shoes of our consumers to understand what they want in an innovative consumer-delighting product, and then put themselves back in the shoes of an R&D Engineer to deliver exactly that.

Attributes:

  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering/physics fundamentals including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design
  • Solid analytical skills, attention to detail, and relentless drive to identify potential problems and take responsibility for their resolution
  • Intellectual curiosity and creativity, strong first principles thinking, positive can-do attitude, and proven ability to deliver robust, elegant, and innovative solutions to complex design challenges
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and dive into hands-on development and testing workstreams
  • Ability to clearly, effectively, and concisely communicate with both technical and non-technical colleagues both verbally and in writing
  • Comfortable multitasking and responding quickly to shifting priorities without losing sight of longer-term projects and goals
  • Ability to conduct early-stage R&D experiments to understand and identify key product features or parameters that drive product performance.

Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Engineering (Mechanical or related disciplines)
  • 1-3 years of related experience in product design, electro-mechanical or consumer product development (including co-ops/internships)
  • Experience with hands-on prototype development in plastic and metal including using basic machine shop tools and 3D Printing
  • Familiarity with electronics (analog/digital), test equipment, and components common in small appliances (sensors, motors, heaters, PCBAs, etc.)
  • Familiarity with production processes such as injection molding and sheet metal forming
  • Competent CAD user
  • Competency in small-scale electromechanical prototyping (Arduino or Raspberry Pi)
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Due to the hands-on nature of the role working with prototypes this is an in-person role at our Needham, MA office
