Position Summary
We’re seeking a full-time Director of Data Engineering and Intelligence for our San Diego-based corporate office to lead and oversee our US data engineering, intelligence, and infrastructure teams. This is a technical leadership role where you will drive innovation, mentor engineers, supervise operations, and shape the future of SHEIN’s data ecosystem. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will shape the company’s data technology strategy, architecture, and operations at scale.
Job Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Innovation Improve our data infrastructure, focusing on scalability, efficiency, and future-proof architecture.
- Act as a subject matter expert and hands-on mentor, guiding data engineers, infrastructure engineers, analysts and managers while fostering a high-performance culture.
- People Management.
- While we expect strong technical depth and the ability to dive deep into engineering issues, approximately 75% of your role will be dedicated to leadership and team management.
- Lead recruiting, career development, performance management, and team structuring for engineering teams.
- Strategic Collaboration.
- Partner closely with the CTO to define and execute long-term data technology initiatives, including infrastructure modernization, architectural transformation, and operational excellence.
- Global Operations & Cross-Regional Collaboration.
- Lead and optimize US-based data operations, while working closely with teams across APAC and global HQ to align workflows and enhance global data capabilities.
- Data Infrastructure & Best Practices.
- Architect, build, and refine large-scale data pipelines and cloud-based infrastructure solutions, ensuring they meet best practices and regulatory requirements.
Job Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- At least 5 years of relevant industrial experience (preferably 8+ years), in data engineering or infrastructure roles.
- Minimum 3 years of management experience (preferably 5+ years), with a demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and manage engineers and managers.
- Deep expertise in cloud technologies and big data frameworks (Map-Reduce ecosystem).
- Proven ability to lead technical operations, diagnose complex infrastructure and data quality issues, and implement scalable solutions.
- Strong foundation in computer science, especially in Linux, Network and SQL.
- Proficiency in scripting languages, especially Bash and Python—these will be evaluated during the interview.
- Experience with containerized and distributed systems (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) and high-availability architectures.
- A minimum of 3 years of collaborating with APAC (oversea) teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Azure.
- Knowledge of data streaming technologies (e.g., Flink, Hive).
- A minimum of 3 years of technical leadership experience in the eCommerce space.
- Bilingual fluency in Mandarin.

Pay Range
$147,600 - $265,200 USD
