Shift5 is seeking a Hardware (Electrical) Engineer to design and develop cutting-edge hardware for our Intake product team. This role is based at our HQ office in Rosslyn, VA.
You will be responsible for the full hardware development lifecycle, from component selection and schematic capture to PCB design/layout. A key aspect of this role involves designing and rigorously testing electrical boards to demanding military and aerospace standards, including MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1275, and DO-160.
You'll collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to create compact, cost-effective, and high-performance assemblies. This includes analyzing existing systems, identifying improvements, building and testing prototypes, and ensuring designs meet specifications, cost, reliability, and safety factors. Experience in an AS9100 certified environment is highly valued.

Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 3+ years of experience (7+ years for Senior) with schematic design of circuit boards to military standards. PCB design and layout experience highly preferred.
- Proven experience with testing to MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1275, and DO-160 standards using test equipment like oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers.
- Experience with FPGA board design.
- Proficiency in Electrical CAD software (Altium preferred).
- Knowledge of manufacturing/production processes and experience in an AS9100/ISO9001 certified environment.
- Familiarity with MIL, DO, and IPC standards.
- Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
Compensation:
- Base Salary: $130,000-$180,000
