Account Manager, Consumer

Boston, Massachusetts, United States

Account Manager, Consumer

You’re killing it at your first or second job and looking for new challenge, somewhere where you’ll be empowered (and expected) to be incredibly hands on with all aspects of program planning, execution and evaluation, with assignments that let you leverage your love of modern PR, creative storytelling and performance communications.

Welcome to SHIFT. We’re looking for people like you to join the Boston office of our growing consumer practice  to help our clients get their message out and connect with the people who matter to them through insights-driven narratives, creative platforms, thought leadership initiatives and content delivered across the paid, earned, social and owned media ecosystem.

Here’s a bit more about what we’re looking for, what you’ll be doing and what it takes to succeed at SHIFT.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Building a deep network of trusted relationships with the media and influencers key to your clients’ success.
  • Executing integrated communications plans and programs that move the needles your clients care about.
  • Drafting a broad range of materials – from press releases to social content
  • Identifying and engaging influencers willing to advocate for our clients’ brands.
  • Identifying and pitching reporters with timely and compelling story ideas/angles and supporting them through the reporting process with access to clients, data, materials and more that make their stories stronger and jobs easier.
  • Working collaboratively with a distributed team of PR pros on consumer accounts large and small
  • Mentor junior team members to inspire them to continue to grow.

What You Bring

  • Minimum five years of experience in an agency or other fast-paced client environment
  • A deep understanding of today’s consumer, particularly Gen Z and multicultural audiences – from micro to macro shifts – and how those trends are impacting people’s purchasing power and the brands they engage with
  • Experience in influencer marketing, media relations and social media best practices; with knowledge of what it takes to create earned media campaigns and sponsored opportunities
  • A love of news, social media, current trends and pop culture
  • Ridiculously strong oral, written and interpersonal communications
  • Experience (or strong interest) in food, beverage and hospitality a plus

What it Takes to Succeed Here

  • Help us improve. Become fluent in the agency’s brand and business; familiarize yourself with our teams, clients, best case work and best proposals. See a missed opportunity along the way? Call it out. Share your thoughts. Make us better.
  • Know what’s going on. Read/watch/listen to and then analyze and report the news and social trends that are important to you and your clients; provide recommendations for actions that the client can/should take as a result.
  • Have a point of view. We’re not looking for people who agree with everything we say. We’re looking for people who think independently, believe in what’s important to them and can bring and defend that passion to work with them every day.
  • Raise your hand. Don’t ever wait for someone to ask you to do something; ask what you can do to help your team, our clients and our agency succeed. Daily.
  • Live our values. Nothing is more important. We’ll hold you to that standard and you can hold us to that standard. It’s that simple.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation & annual increases
  • Generous PTO package & paid holidays
  • Annual paid recharge shutdown the last week of the year
  • Employee referral and new business incentive bonuses
  • Flexible hybrid work environment (three days in-office)
  • Summer Fridays
  • Technology stipend to set up your home office with the tech you need
  • Monthly cell phone stipend
  • 401k contribution that starts and vests 100% on day one
  • Comprehensive healthcare, dental & vision coverage
  • EAP that offers 24/7 access to Licensed Professional Counselors
  • Donation matching & time off to volunteer in your community
  • Frequent opportunities for career advancement
  • Company outings & celebrations
  • Flexible spending accounts (healthcare, dependent, commuter)
  • Paid parental leave for birth and adoption
  • Tuition reimbursement for ongoing education costs
  • Inclusive, flexible and supportive work environment
  • Recognition and celebration of professional wins and milestones

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
