Assistant Superintendent (MEP)

General Purpose of Position:

To supervise all phases of the construction project in the field, including the daily coordination of all subcontractors, materials and equipment. Provide oversight of construction work to ensure that the work is being constructed according to the specifications, company quality standards, project policies and designs. Prepare and plan daily work to meet the Master Construction Schedule in a cost effective and responsible way to keep costs within the Project Budget.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise field operations in coordination with Project Manager and General Superintendent.
  • Communicate with project management regarding technical and quality issues and schedule of electrical/mechanical work, safety, and site conditions
  • Develops the most cost-effective plan and schedule for completion of the work following a logical pattern for utilization of resources (takes lead on productivity issues).
  • Tracks and controls daily activities in an organized manner and files daily work reports.
  • Ensures work is executed in a safe manner.
  • Ensures site safety records are kept up to date and filed (Document and report all injuries).
  • Coordinates work of all subcontractors working on various phases of the project.
  • Oversees performance of all trade contractors and reviews architectural and engineering drawings to make sure that all specifications and regulations are being followed.
  • Tracks and controls construction schedule and associated costs in coordination with the Project Manager and General Superintendent.
  • Ensures project materials and workmanship meet the project Quality Standards.
  • Performs additional assignments as directed by superiors or as required for a successful project.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have working knowledge of project management practices and their applications.
  • Computer literate, proficiency in MS Office Suite of software, knowledge of MS Project and Sharepoint.
  • The ability to discern appropriate context for construction drawings (single line) and specifications.  Also, this position requires thoroughness to complete all assigned tasks and responsibilities; and accurate assessment of field conditions

Work Experience Requirements: 

  • Candidate should have experience in manufacturing construction projects.
  • Prior Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, or Fire Protection experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of field experience as an on-site project field engineer or superintendent
  • General knowledge of construction practices and procedures.

Education Requirements: 

  • 4 year degree and/or 5 years proven construction experience in related field as lead general superintendent with not less than 10 years combined construction experience.
