Ghent (hybrid, 2 days in the office)



Position Overview:
The accountant is responsible for day to day accounting tasks with a main focus on Accounts Payable (PO’s, invoices, expenses and payments) and monthly closing. The accountant is able to support and assist the junior accountant if needed and review completed tasks by the junior accountant. The accountant is responsible for answering questions from employees, vendors or other third parties. Fostering effective working relationships with external vendors, auditors, consultants as well as internal partners including People Operations, Workplace and Revenue Operations is key for this role. The accountant is committed to continuous learning and innovation, is open to take over additional responsibilities, volunteers to take ownership of extra projects and is able to provide backup support to the manager. 

 

What You’ll Do:

Responsibilities closing process

  • Participate in the month-end closing process including (but not limited to) researching for missing entries, booking provision journals, accruals, IC reconciliations, fixed assets and revenue recognition
  • Analyse variances, tracking extraordinary spend, and ensuring proper period cut-off for all activities
  • Perform the reconciliation of the balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
  • Prepare monthly journal entries such as payroll, credit card reconciliation, provisions,etc
  • Produce reports and KPI’s in order to analyse the current processes or improve the quality of the financial services
  • File and maintain all journal entries for internal and audit purposes
  • Assist in automating processes and procedures
  • Assist in preparation of government statistics
  • Prepare and submit tax returns and tax declarations within specified deadlines (sales tax, corporate tax, 281.50 forms, 1099 forms)
  • Prepare a bi-weekly cash forecast for all subsidiaries based on AP aging, payroll payments and collections



Responsibilities AP process

  • Review and approve Purchase requests from an accounting point of view
  • Review and approve expenses from an accounting point of view
  • Process invoices
  • Prepare and/or review payments
  • Processbank statements
  • Reconcile credit card statements
  • Calculate the quarterly intercompany fees, create and submit the corresponding invoices
  • Prepare and submit vat declarations within specified deadlines (monthly declarations, IC listings, yearly client listing)

 

Responsibilities as a business partner

  • Assist various departments in accounting issues and queries
  • Support the Auditors in conducting the internal and external audits for the different legal entities
  • Participate in maintaining and improving controls over the different business and accounting processes
  • Focus on improving and automating current processes
  • Collaborate with other departments and/or external consultants on special projects



What We’re Looking For 

 

  • Proficient in MS Office 
  • Previous experience in accounting (in a SAAS environment is a plus)
  • Experience with Netsuite - as a bonus point
  • Knowledge of BE-GAAP 
  • Knowledge of corporate/sales tax and VAT
  • Fluent in English and Dutch 

 

  • Strong communication skills
  • Highly organised, and an ability to execute with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic, ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments and meet deadlines
  • Detail- and number-oriented
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
