The Role

We are looking for a talented and driven AI Engineer to join Sigma's AI Platform team. You will work at the intersection of large language models, data infrastructure, and product engineering — designing and building AI features that are deeply embedded into the Sigma product experience.

This role requires strong engineering fundamentals combined with hands-on expertise in modern AI/ML systems. You'll collaborate closely with Product, Data Science, and Platform Engineering to ship AI capabilities that real enterprise customers rely on at scale.

What You'll Build

• Design, develop, and ship AI-powered product features including natural language interfaces, LLM-based agents, intelligent recommendations, and automated data workflows
• Build and optimize RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines that operate over live warehouse data
• Develop and maintain integrations with leading LLM providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Mistral) and agent frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, Model Context Protocol)
• Architect robust, low-latency AI inference services that scale to enterprise workloads
• Implement evaluation frameworks and feedback loops to continuously improve AI output quality, accuracy, and reliability
• Collaborate with the Data Engineering team to ensure AI features are grounded in governed, fresh, and warehouse-native data
• Contribute to Sigma's AI governance standards — ensuring outputs are explainable, auditable, and safe for enterprise deployment
• Participate in roadmap planning, technical design reviews, and cross-functional architecture discussions

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 3+ years of software engineering experience with 1–2+ years focused on AI/ML systems in production
• Proficiency in Python and experience with AI/ML libraries (PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, or equivalent)
• Hands-on experience building and deploying LLM-powered applications (RAG, agents, fine-tuning, prompt engineering)
• Strong understanding of NLP concepts, vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector), and embedding models
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and MLOps tooling (AWS/GCP/Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD for ML pipelines)
• Solid computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and API design
• Comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments with a bias toward shipping

Nice to Have:

• Experience with warehouse-native AI patterns or building on top of Snowflake / Databricks / BigQuery
• Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or agentic AI frameworks
• Exposure to SQL generation, semantic layers, or BI/analytics product domains
• Experience with A/B testing and AI evaluation frameworks (RAGAS, TruLens, DeepEval, etc.)
• Contributions to open-source AI/ML projects
• Background in data engineering or analytical query systems

Compensation

Base Salary Range: $125,000 – $140,000 USD (depending on experience and location) Plus equity, annual bonus eligibility, and comprehensive benefits.
