About the job

The Staff Software Development Engineer is responsible for managing the technical needs across the engineering team.  They have accountability for the development, operations and support for web-based applications. The emphasis in this role will be on leading a team of FE engineers technically so a passion for React in particular would be of benefit. Opportunities to do full stack are a possibility but not a requirement.  

We are seeking candidates who are passionate to collaborate very closely with Business Stakeholders, Product Managers and Engineering teams in different development environments.  They will work closely with senior leaders to ensure that investments are aligned to the Enterprise strategic goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead front-end decisions and establish coding standards for React 18+ applications, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks
  • Develop and maintain responsive, accessible web applications with focus on user experience, performance optimization, and cross-browser compatibility
  • Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers to translate design mockups and wireframes into pixel-perfect, interactive user interfaces
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior front-end engineers, conducting code reviews and establishing best practices
  • Work with Product Teams to refine user stories with focus on front-end implementation details, user interactions, and component reusability
  • Maintain high standards of software quality by writing high-quality code and following established standards and best practices
  • Ensure cross team collaboration with other Software Engineers, Business Analysts and Architects in the planning, design, development, testing, and maintenance of web- and desktop-based business applications is occurring
  • Provide estimates at a User Story level and provide input to work plans
  • Participate in peer-reviews of solution designs and related code
  • Package and support deployment of code releases
  • Analyze and resolve technical and application problems
  • Assess opportunities for application and process improvement and prepare documentation of rationale to share with team members and other affected parties
  • Provide third-level support to business users
  • Proactively reviews the Performance and Capacity of all aspects of production: code, infrastructure, data, and message processing
  • Perform unit and integration testing before launch
  • Responsible for the security and privacy of any and all protected health information that may be accessed during normal work activities

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in large-scale software development. With 2+ years of experience in a technical lead role
  • 8+ years of experience building and scaling web applications, with deep expertise in modern frontend technologies (React 18+, Angular, TypeScript, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience with CSS preprocessors (SCSS/SASS), CSS-in-JS solutions, TailwindCSS and responsive design principles
  • 5+ years of experience with front-end testing frameworks including Jest, Vitest, React Testing Library, Playwright, and Cypress
  • 3+ years of experience with front-end build tools and bundlers (Vite, Webpack, Rollup) and package managers (npm, yarn, pnpm)
  • 5+ years of experience with agile development
  • ​​Demonstrated leadership in building or maintaining component libraries or design systems
  • Passion for frontend fundamentals – accessibility, animation, responsive design, and cross-browser behaviour

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
