Segment Strategy Manager

Alameda, CA

About Us

We are Sila, a next-generation battery materials company. Our mission is to power the world’s transition to clean energy. To create this future, our team is building a better lithium-ion battery from the inside out today. We engineer and manufacture ground-breaking battery materials that significantly increase the energy density of batteries, while reducing their size and weight. The result? Smaller more powerful batteries that can unlock innovation in consumer devices and accelerate the mass adoption of electric cars to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. We're tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time every day, and together we're redefining what's possible. Are you ready to be a part of a team committed to changing the world?

Who You Are

As our Segment Strategy Manager, you will be the segment owner and business case builder, identifying, prioritizing, and crafting Sila’s market-entry strategy for new and innovative target segments. You'll focus on exciting end applications such as robotics, eVTOLs, and other next-generation technologies. This is a high-impact role at the critical intersection of Product, Sales, and Corporate Strategy. You will translate our technical advantages into targeted, profitable, and strategically sound commercial outcomes. Sitting within the MaPS (Marketing, Product, and Strategy) group, you will collaborate extensively with the Product team to inform the roadmap, the Sales team to drive execution, and the Marketing team to craft market-specific content. If you thrive on deep market analysis, securing cross-functional alignment, and are a confident voice in shaping business direction, this is your opportunity.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Segment Strategy: Act as the company's internal expert for new, innovative, target market segments. Conduct rigorous market analysis (TAM/SAM/SOM), competitive intelligence, and customer research to drive Sila’s strategic direction in these segments.
  • Business Case Development: Convert core product performance metrics into clear, segment-specific customer value and ROI. Create robust, multi-year business cases for new products and beachhead markets to secure executive alignment and justify development resources.
  • Pricing Frameworks: Lead the implementation of company-wide pricing frameworks across all offerings.
  • Industry Thought Leadership: Proactively educate and shape industry requirements by leading high-impact initiatives, technical briefings, and strategic events.
  • Segment-specific Go-to-Market (GTM) and Sales Enablement: Build actionable sales playbooks, segment-specific training, and commercial materials. Oversee the execution of early-stage GTM plans focused on validating new segment assumptions and smoothly transitioning qualified opportunities to the sales team.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a related field; MBA is a plus.
  • 8+ years of industry experience (less with advanced degree); demonstrable experience in Segment Marketing, Product Marketing, or Strategy within a B2B environment, preferably working with a manufacturing-heavy, technical product.
  • Proven history of using data and market research to build and champion major business cases for new products or market entry.
  • Exceptional ability to manage multiple, disparate segments simultaneously and connect the dots between technical capability and commercial opportunity.
  • A strong bias for action, speed to impact, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams (Sales, Product, Executive) without direct authority.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally to trade shows, conferences, and customer sites.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc. in a fixed location.
  • Domestic and international travel for around 20% of the time

Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
