AI Business Analyst

Washington, DC

At Simple Technology Solutions, our people are our priority. We know our team members are more than employees—they’re parents, friends, volunteers, artists, and athletes. That’s why we offer flexibility to help them thrive personally and professionally while delivering exceptional solutions to our Federal Government clients.

Our culture is built on collaboration, continuous learning, and excellence. We are mentors and thought leaders who share knowledge and foster growth. Recognized as a “Best Place to Work,” we believe a range of perspectives helps us drive innovation and exceed customer expectations. At STS, taking care of our people isn’t a perk—it’s the standard.

As a HUBZone company, we also offer special incentives for team members living in qualified HUBZones. Check out the HUBZone map HERE to see if you qualify!

Simple Technology Solutions is looking for an AI Business Analyst to add to our team.

Quick Position Overview:

  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance are required
  • Bachelor's Degree is required
  • Minimum of 8 years' position related experience is required
  • AWS Certified AI Practitioner or Cloud Practitioner certification preferred for hire; the AWS and Anthropic Claude certifications listed under Required Certifications must be earned within 12 months of hire
  • Remote position with occasional travel to client sites and STS events
  • Candidates living in the DC Metro region (within driving distance for quarterly in-person team events) are strongly preferred; STS is a HUBZone company, so residence in a HUBZone is favored for remote candidates

The Role:

The AI Business Analyst owns the first human bookend of the STS SDLC: understanding what a federal mission actually needs and turning it into requirements the team and its AI tooling can build from. You produce the requirements trio (use cases, mockups, and specifications) that drives everything downstream, and you get those artifacts in front of real users early and cheaply, before the team commits to building. Success looks like engineers who rarely have to guess, users who recognize their own work in the first demo, and a traceable line from every requirement to the Jira cards and pull requests that deliver it. You also serve as the analyst on engagements that use AWS-native AI services or other client-mandated toolchains.

The AI Business Analyst at STS will:

  • Elicit, analyze, and document requirements for AI applications with federal stakeholders and end users, using interviews, workshops, observation, and review of existing processes and data.
  • Author and maintain the requirements trio for each project: use cases written in the STS module-qualified use-case format, mockups and prototypes, and specifications detailed enough to drive test-first development.
  • Validate mission fit early by putting mockups, prototypes, and thin slices of working software in front of actual potential users and feeding what is learned back into priorities.
  • Use Claude and STS's requirements agents and skills to draft, refine, and cross-check requirements artifacts, while owning their accuracy and completeness.
  • Partner with the tech lead on backlog grooming and prioritization, decomposing use cases into Jira cards with clear acceptance criteria and maintaining traceability from requirements to cards to pull requests.
  • Define acceptance criteria and expected AI behavior, including what good, acceptable, and unacceptable model outputs look like for each use case, in partnership with the quality engineer.
  • Model current and future business processes, data flows, and integration points, and identify where AI adds value and where it introduces risk.
  • Facilitate demos, user acceptance reviews, and feedback sessions, and capture decisions and changes in the requirements artifacts.
  • Support the client's compliance and governance needs by documenting data handling, privacy, and responsible-AI considerations within the requirements.
  • Contribute to the STS SDLC's requirements standards and templates, and support business development with discovery sessions and proposal content.

Education and Experience:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field; a master's degree is a plus
  • Minimum of 8 years of business or systems analysis experience on software delivery teams, including at least 2 years on projects that delivered AI, machine-learning, or data-intensive solutions
  • Demonstrated experience writing use cases, user stories, and functional specifications that engineers built from directly, and producing mockups or prototypes to validate them with users
  • Experience working with federal, state, or other public-sector stakeholders, including navigating governance, security, and procurement constraints
  • Strong command of use-case-driven and spec-driven requirements methods, backlog management in Jira, and agile ceremonies in both Kanban and Scrum
  • Proficiency with wireframing and prototyping tools (such as Figma or Balsamiq) and with AI tools for drafting and analyzing requirements
  • Working understanding of how large language model applications behave, including retrieval, agents, prompts, and the limits of model output, sufficient to write testable acceptance criteria
  • Familiarity with AWS AI services (such as Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Q) at the level of what they can and cannot do for a mission
  • Excellent facilitation, interviewing, and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Genuinely curious about the mission and the people doing the work; insists on talking to real users rather than proxies
  • Precise and organized, with a strong instinct for ambiguity and the persistence to resolve it before it reaches the engineers
  • Self-directed and comfortable owning outcomes on a small, senior team where everyone contributes across the lifecycle
  • Curious and current on AI tooling; treats AI assistants as part of the team and holds their output to the same standard as human work
  • Clear, candid communicator with federal clients and teammates; writes well and documents as a habit
  • Bias toward fast delivery and early user feedback over conservative gating; learns from failure quickly

Required Certifications (to be earned within 12 months of hire)

  • AWS Certified AI Practitioner
  • Claude Certified Associate – Foundations (CCAO-F)

Preferred Certifications

  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA)
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO I)
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
  • Human-centered design or UX certification (such as NN/g UX Certification)

What We Offer:

  • Competitive compensation package
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans
  • Professional development and training
  • Performance-based incentives
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan
  • Work from home stipend
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Paid holidays
  • Flexible work schedule
