Our Building Technology division is always looking for great talent, and especially people who enjoy solving difficult problems. Currently, we're looking to speak with 2024 and 2025 graduates with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering to join our team in the Oakland, CA office.
What You’ll Do:
Assist our Building Technology division with new design, evaluation, investigation, and design of repairs for existing buildings under the direction of a licensed engineer/architect. Perform the following duties under the direction of a licensed engineer/architect:
- Apply engineering principles, physics, and materials science to the exterior envelope of buildings to make them durable, energy efficient, low embodied carbon, and able to reliably resist water infiltration.
- Learn and retain information about products, materials and processes used in the engineering and construction industry.
- Assist in development and review of design drawings and technical specifications during the design process.
- Guided work on routine exterior envelope problems, using data, logic, judgement, and problem-solving tools.
- Assist in planning and designing building technology engineering solutions.
- Evaluate performance requirements for building enclosure components.
- Perform building condition field surveys and conduct in-situ testing to assess building conditions or confirm areas of failure. Document existing building conditions and identify or confirm areas of possible failure.
- Communicate and present informally at jobsites and staff meetings.
- Act as project manager for small, straightforward assignments and assist project managers in budgeting, scheduling, and client communication.
- Develop written materials (emails, letters, field reports and technical specifications, etc.)
- Access and inspect engineering project sites to investigate and evaluate repairs and ensure conformance with engineering design specifications.
- Assist in development of proposals.
- Manage multiple project assignments concurrently balancing competing project deadlines.
- Access project sites located at great heights by climbing ladders, scaffolds and via aerial lift.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related field. Must have:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- Demonstrated knowledge of sketching, drawing or drafting engineering plans (gained through academic coursework or professional experience); and
- Ability to travel to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation, and if applicable, an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
- Hybrid position working from SGH’s Oakland office and a home office within normal commuting distance of Oakland, CA, based on arrangement with supervisor and project teams.
- Up to 10% domestic travel to project sites required.

Compensation:
The below range is a good faith estimate pursuant to applicable equal pay and pay transparency laws. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors including the candidate’s experience, qualifications and work location.
Base salary is a part of SGH’s industry leading Total Compensation package. Our Total Compensation package includes base salary, pay for extra hours worked, an annual discretionary bonus program, generous paid time off, and health and wellness benefits with a special emphasis on substantial SGH contributions to medical insurance premiums and SGH’s Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan.
Associate Project Consultant:
$83,027 - $89,440 USD
