The role:
The Metrology Technician in Quality Control (QC) performs analytical instrument qualifications and Preventive Maintenance/Performance Qualification (PM/PQ) procedures. Additionally, they perform maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair on a variety of analytical equipment and instruments for laboratory equipment. This position reports to a Quality Control Chemistry supervisor.
The responsibilities:
- Ensure timely Metrology support to Production, QC Chemistry, QC Microbiology, QC Critical and Incoming Quality Control where analytical instruments are deployed.
- Ensure compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
- Calibrate analytical instruments for conformance to established government, commercial, and specification standards.
- Perform routine PM/PQ activities on category B instruments per standard operating procedures (SOPs) on new and existing instrumentation.
- Responsible for instrument re-certification with outside standard laboratories, which includes performing incoming inspections and documentation reviews on these instruments.
- Participate in continuous improvement functions (Lean initiatives) teams, which increase efficiency, solve problems, generate cost savings, and improve quality.
- Perform/assist in internal assessments/investigations by collecting and analyzing accurate, objective evidence regarding risks and their magnitude.
- Serve as a technical resource for process and/or product development activities.
Desired qualifications:
- High school diploma is required. An Associate degree is preferred.
- Minimum 1 year experience in Metrology or related field required.
- Accurate and thorough with attention to detail.
- Demonstrate organizational skills.
- Work in a courteous and professional manner with interior and exterior clients.
- Strong communication skills, verbal, non-verbal and written, are required.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft software programs and the ability to use enterprise software.
Physical / Safety Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, push/pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment.
- May be required to handle laboratory chemicals.
- Work with pressurized equipment, hot surfaces.
- Duties may require overtime work, including nights and weekends.
- Position may require sitting or standing for long periods of time.
