Staff Systems Engineer
ABOUT SINGULAR GENOMICS
Singular Genomics is inventing at the forefront of genomics, one of the world’s fastest-growing industries. The commercially available G4® Sequencing Platform is a powerful, highly versatile benchtop genomic sequencer designed to produce fast and accurate results. In addition, the company is currently developing the G4X™ Spatial Sequencer, an upgrade to the G4, which will leverage Singular’s proprietary sequencing technology, applying it as an in situ readout for transcriptomics, proteomics and fluorescent H&E in tissue, with spatial context. Singular Genomics’ mission is to empower researchers and clinicians to advance science and medicine.
We foster a culture of creativity and technical excellence, both catalysts for innovation. We celebrate diversity, emphasize collaboration and, as we rapidly mature, we are constantly looking at ways we can do better for our people.
Our Headquarters are located on the Torrey Pines Mesa, in La Jolla, California at the center of the biotech hub. Our Manufacturing facility is in Sorrento Valley.
Position Summary:
As a Staff Systems Engineer, you will lead the integration and performance optimization of complex scientific instruments integrating optics, fluidics, motion, thermal and electrical functions. You will also collaborate on the analysis of complex system issues to complete the integration and transfer to manufacturing.
This position is ideally suited to a candidate who is self-motivated and excited by a startup environment where opportunity to rise to frequent and diverse challenges is commonly encountered.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to prototype instrument assembly, bring-up and functional test. Coordinate execution of engineering and design verification activities.
- Troubleshoot and analyze system issues. Lead interdisciplinary root cause analysis involving control systems, electromechanical, thermal, optical and fluidic subsystems.
- Coordinate and communicate with external vendors to manage design, debug and integration of parts and subsystems.
- Perform data collection and statistical analysis.
- Create reports and presentations summarizing experimental plans and conclusions.
- Translate high-level requirements into subsystem requirements, create performance budgets.
- Qualify new product designs through design verification tests.
- Work with subsystem owners to identify and design test beds and execute reliability and lifetime test plans.
Qualifications:
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Bioengineering, Optical Engineering or other relevant degree.
- A minimum of 7+ years of relevant experience in integration activities, e.g. as an integrator in a multidisciplinary project.
- Proficient in design and test of systems comprising imaging, illumination, electrical, mechanical, vacuum, and fluidic modules, and subsystems.
- Experience with definition, setup, characterization, and testing of complex systems, including design of experiments, reliability life tests, and root cause analysis.
- Familiar with scripting languages. Ability to write scripts for automated testing.
- Proficient in reading electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and manufacturers’ product data sheets.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to utilize test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, laser power meters, beam profilers, autocollimators, etc. with no direction.
The estimated base salary range for this role based in the United States of America is: $121,400 - $159,100. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
