ABOUT SINGULAR GENOMICS
Singular Genomics is inventing at the forefront of genomics, one of the world’s fastest-growing industries. The commercially available G4® Sequencing Platform is a powerful, highly versatile benchtop genomic sequencer designed to produce fast and accurate results. In addition, the company is currently developing the G4X™ Spatial Sequencer, an upgrade to the G4, which will leverage Singular’s proprietary sequencing technology, applying it as an in situ readout for transcriptomics, proteomics and fluorescent H&E in tissue, with spatial context. Singular Genomics’ mission is to empower researchers and clinicians to advance science and medicine.
We foster a culture of creativity and technical excellence, both catalysts for innovation. We celebrate diversity, emphasize collaboration and, as we rapidly mature, we are constantly looking at ways we can do better for our people.
Our Headquarters are located on the Torrey Pines Mesa, in La Jolla, California at the center of the biotech hub. Our Manufacturing facility is in Sorrento Valley.
Position Summary:
We’re looking for an experienced and mission-driven technology leader to join us as our SVP of Software and Algorithms. In this high-impact role, you’ll lead the development of core software and computational technologies that power our products; from instrument firmware and control software to bioinformatics algorithms and web-based applications.
You’ll guide a team of talented engineers and scientists across multiple disciplines, with responsibility for the full software lifecycle: architecture, development, deployment, and support. You’ll work closely with the CTO and company leadership to help launch our next-generation instrument and shape the future of our computational platform.
If you thrive at the intersection of engineering, science, and strategy; and want to make a meaningful impact in the life sciences, this is your opportunity.
This position can be remote or on-site. If remote, travel to the headquarters in San Diego, CA will be required at least quarterly.
Responsibilities:
- Set and execute the technical strategy for all software and algorithmic components of our product portfolio.
- Lead cross-functional teams responsible for instrument firmware, control systems, image processing, bioinformatics algorithms and web applications.
- Responsible for the full development lifecycle, from design and architecture through deployment, scaling, and support.
- Drive the development of external customer facing web applications.
- Support the internal systems utilized for data analysis and operational insights.
- Build and scale modern DevOps infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.
- Lead build-vs-buy decisions and manage outsourced software partnerships.
- Mentor and grow a team that includes team leads, and individual contributors that are both on site and remote.
- Collaborate with internal teams: product, operations, regulatory, clinical, to deliver robust and compliant software.
- Support go-to-market and product launch efforts with technical planning and execution.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of leadership experience in software or computational biology, with a proven ability to manage diverse technical teams.
- Experience in life sciences, diagnostics, healthcare, or a similarly complex, data-rich industry.
- Track record of delivering production-quality software, ideally spanning embedded systems, cloud/web apps, and computational pipelines.
- Experience working in Agile environments with modern engineering practices (e.g., CI/CD, DevOps, test automation).
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to drive alignment across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with scientific computing, instrument software, and/or bioinformatics is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with regulated environments (e.g., ISO, FDA, CE-IVD) is a bonus.
