Our Headquarters are located on the Torrey Pines Mesa, in La Jolla, California at the center of the biotech hub. Our Manufacturing facility is in Sorrento Valley.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Sr. Production Technician, you will have the unique opportunity to build sophisticated scientific instrumentation. Working with the Field Service, R&D Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering, you will support the creation of new manufacturing processes and procedures to enable successful integration and commercialization of our instruments. You will play a key role in developing the new product transfer process, configuration management, assembly, and test documentation. As part of your ongoing responsibility, you will be responsible for electromechanical instrument assembly as well as continuing to mentor and train additional new hires joining our rapidly growing organization.

As part of a small and dynamic team in a startup environment, you will be expected to make multi-disciplinary contributions, i.e., participate in manufacturing process design reviews, participate in the design of the manufacture cells including ergonomic assessments.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with members of R&D Engineering, Science and Manufacturing teams to transfer new products and develop manufacturing processes, ensuring, robust design and reliability.
  • Supports design control at product release; BOM and build hierarchy are entered into ERP systems.
  • Conducts process validation following protocols.
  • Works closely with, and consistently provides feedback to, design engineers to improve manufacture and test ability.
  • Engages in system level troubleshooting and root-cause investigations to ensure issues are understood, root caused and corrected. 
  • Assists in the incorporation of GMP to provide ease of manufacturing.
  • Performs routine operations on production assemblies, harness and cables, substrates, fixtures, templates and holding devices.
  • Maintains clean work station area, including equipment and well stocked production supplies.
  • Provides routine equipment and workstation maintenance with associated logs.
  • Operates multiple pieces of equipment simultaneously.
  • Incorporates engineering change orders and maintains process documentation.
  • Maintains records, moves materials and follows safety rules in performance of duties.
  • Uses mechanical and electronic measurement equipment to assure specifications are met and troubleshoot failures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Technical College Diploma preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing instrument assembly and test in a Clinical Chemistry, Bio or Pharma Instrument Systems field.
  • Ability to understand complex assembly and test instruction – has worked to specifications, instruction sheets, prints, and written/verbal, video, and computer instructions to fabricate/assemble/inspect product manually, semi-automatically or automatically.
  • Proven experience in electromechanical assembly with ability to troubleshoot problems related to these assemblies, i.e. basic fit and functionality.
  • Previous experience in ISO medical device and GMP environment.
  • Familiar with the Toyota production system – JIT, Kanban, 5S, Building Flow and Standard Work and kaizen.
  • Competence with common laboratory instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Excellent written & oral communication and presentation/documentation skills.
  • An all-hands-on deck mentality where no task is beneath you.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment.
  • Familiar with IPC Standard IPC/WHMA, IPC-610

The estimated base hourly range for this role based in the United States of America is: $27.49 - $38.88. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Should the level of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
