Software Engineer, Platform

Who We Are:

At Sixfold, we're revolutionizing the insurance industry with groundbreaking AI that handles the complex analysis while empowering underwriters to focus on strategic decision-making. Our AI engine doesn't just process data – it's the first of its kind to crack the code on insurance's most challenging problems, from instant risk assessment to loss pattern recognition. We've solved the notorious "front-door problem" that's plagued carriers for decades, giving them the power to instantly evaluate, prioritize submissions and capture the best opportunities.

Why We’re Excited About This Space:

Insurance isn't just another industry – it's the backbone that protects everything from your local coffee shop to billion-dollar shipping fleets, and we're revolutionizing it with AI. Our team brings together battle-tested founders and operators who've scaled both insurtech innovations and enterprise solutions, and we're united by one mission: transforming how risk is evaluated.

That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to shape underwriting in a $7 trillion industry while doing the most important work of your career.

What You’ll Do:

As a Platform focussed software engineer at Sixfold, you will:

  • Build and maintain robust infrastructure. You'll design, implement, and manage our cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (primarily Terraform) on AWS. You'll ensure our systems are scalable, reliable, and secure while optimizing for cost efficiency.
  • Own observability and reliability. You'll implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions using tools like Datadog, ensuring system health visibility and quick incident response. You'll establish SLOs and work to continuously improve system reliability.
  • Drive AI platform evolution. You'll architect and implement a unified control plane that brings together best-in-class AIOps tools, creating a seamless experience for our AI engineers from experimentation through production deployment.
  • Multiply the company’s speed of development. You'll build and maintain internal tools, CI/CD pipelines, and automation to streamline development workflows. You'll work closely with development teams to identify pain points and implement solutions that accelerate delivery while maintaining quality.

Who You Are:

  • A smart self-starter: You have a bias for action. You orient yourself around solutions and outcomes and don’t wait for others to tell you what to do. But you also understand how to build alignment and conviction for a decision that can’t be taken back easily.
  • A force multiplier: You look for ways to magnify your impact and your team’s. When you find a productivity hack, you share it with your teammates and build a tool to make it easier. You document knowledge for the benefit of future teammates. And you lean into AI and automation to improve your productivity.
  • An empathetic communicator: You communicate nuanced ideas clearly, whether you're explaining technical decisions in writing or brainstorming in real time. In disagreements, you engage thoughtfully with other perspectives and compromise when needed.
  • A learner: You thrive on learning new things. You can name your favorite sources of what’s new in tech and AI, and you’re excited to tell us about your latest hack or discovery.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 1 year focused on cloud infrastructure, networking, and monitoring. You’ve happily worn the DevOps/SRE/sysadmin hat before. Your Python or Ruby skills are strong, and you've used them to automate workflows and build developer tools.
  • You have a healthy skepticism about any system that 'just works' and an instinct for anticipating failure modes before they occur.
  • You want to work in an early-stage, fast-growth tech company. You are comfortable with ambiguity and change. You can own problems and proactively devise solutions for them, not just wait for somebody to feed you tasks to execute.
  • You love communication, collaboration, and execution. You value meaningful commit messages and pull request descriptions and prefer to merge your PRs within a day or two. You appreciate healthy engineering debates but know how to make pragmatic decisions. You take feedback well and are candid with the feedback you give.

Additional Information:

  • Expected full-time salary range between $100,000 to $195,000 + equity + benefits.
  • Advertised and actual salary ranges may differ by geographic area, work experience, education, and/or skill level.

We foster an environment that welcomes professionals with a diversity of backgrounds and ideas. We value passionate professionals who bring creativity, determination, and a commitment to our mission. At Sixfold, every team member plays a crucial role, with opportunities to make meaningful and visible contributions to our success.
